Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

You still talk more than I usually do ;)

We should be fine (except for air quality--I seem to be the most sensitive one in the house). I don't know about any of the other fires, but the Chetco Bar fire is predicted to be contained by midOctober:hmm

:thumbsup

We're definitely hoping for an early rainy season--it usually doesn't start until around Halloween (and if it doesn't start after Halloween, it will be raining on Halloween night itself View attachment 1128648 )

The pics are at https://www.flickr.com/photos/amy_paperlady/collections/72157684860571873/ There are 2 and a half weeks' worth, and there are also pics by friends of mine from whom I've gotten permission to use them :thumbsup
Halloween is usually our date for turning on heat... although our definition of cold makes most people guffaw. .. or chortle.

"We" turn on the heat when I darn well feel like it! (DH grumbles, but he eventually gets over it.) I wish we had a fireplace or woodstove, but we built our house ourselves after losing our 100+ year old home to a house fire. So my contractor (DH) refused to put in any wood burning device in our home. He let me have my way on a few other things, though (like my pantry and jetted tub), so I didn't fire him. ;)

Yep...Just don't milk out any more than needed to give her some relief from the pressure...Or you'll be dealing with milk fever.

Yep!!! In a new mom it's best not to mess with em too much! :plbb

not sure why it would give her milk fever, unless she is low on calcium. There are some great ways to give supplimental calcium.

The more you milk the more they make, the sooner you start milking, the more they make.

Of course, if you don't want to be milking her every day, then you want to milk just enough to relieve the pressure. ... since you would not want her milk production to increase...you would be wanting it to decrease.

it takes all sorts, in this little world of ours ;)
True!:D

If you start milking completely out a day or two after kidding, the does body will draw from the blood calcium instead of the bone calcium in order to keep up with the demand. This is what will bring on the milk fever. Made the mistake when I first began with dairy goats and nearly lost one.

the calcium in the blood is always what is put in the milk.

There is a great calcium suppliment made for high production milk goats that you can give them a couple of days before kidding , and then again after.
