Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

"We" turn on the heat when I darn well feel like it! (DH grumbles, but he eventually gets over it.) I wish we had a fireplace or woodstove, but we built our house ourselves after losing our 100+ year old home to a house fire. So my contractor (DH) refused to put in any wood burning device in our home. He let me have my way on a few other things, though (like my pantry and jetted tub), so I didn't fire him. ;)

was the house fire due to a wood stove?

'Al' just made sense. :th

rare...so true.... but it happens. :D

the calcium in the blood is always what is put in the milk.

There is a great calcium suppliment made for high production milk goats that you can give them a couple of days before kidding , and then again after.
Ah..Good to know what is it called?

It is always.. However when they first kid, the body is in overdrive to produce excess milk for the new kids. So draws from the calcium reserves in the bones as well as the blood. If you milk completely out, the body gets the signal that a huge amount of milk is needed but can't access enough calcium from the bones as it takes longer to rebuild so it's draws primarily from the blood which depletes the blood calcium levels faster than the body can replenish. If you gradually bring up her supply by milking small amounts regularly then the body can handle it and won't need supplements.
Remember, I'm talking about the first couple of days after kids are born and she establishing her supply for them.

I like this best:

but if your goats have lots of problems with milk fever, you probably want to also have an injectable on hand.

Sorry about you losing your home that way. Must have been horrid.
