Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

have you gone on a river float?

@WVduckchick I have a pond question for you. Assuming from your name and your opening post that you have had ducks on the pond. Do you have any problems with interaction between resident ducks and wild geese?

We have a nice pond with an island in the middle and every year we get wild geese that come in for a few months then take off when it starts to get hot (we are in North Texas). We would like to have some ducks year round, just not sure how they would get along with wild geese. The geese can get fairly possessive of the pond and will chase off other wild geese that come try to share. :|

Enough of the serious questions, got a paddle boat here? I don't go in pond water, too many snakes!
So far, I have not had any wild geese visit my pond. But we only dug it about 6-7 years ago. Had a blue heron visit and some wild ducks, but my ducks weren't there yet, so sorry, I can't help answer your questions. Wild turkeys are there daily, but don't seem to be an issue. Hopefully someone else here can offer some advice.

I can however offer you a big welcome and a cold beverage on the house! .. Er, on the pond, I guess

We have a small pond (or did before we just sort of gave up and let the cat tails and frogs take over) and for a while we also had ducks. The pond draws Canadian gees, wild ducks and the occasional heron -- our resident ducks tolerated each to a point, but would make sure no one got any ideas about staying.....visitors were allowed to paddle around for a couple of hours and then they were asked to leave, even birds that were considerably larger than our ducks never put up much resistance when shown the door. It was only after the last of our resident ducks left (lost one to a fox, a year later one of the remaining two died of old age so I re-homed the last one rather than get more ducks to keep him company) that we started having wild ducks actually settle in and nest every year.

no, wanted to show you what I finished for the pond today.......

Hi y'all! Hopefully you don't mind that I've come by the pond!

Hi, Henny - pull up a floaty and paddle on over!

X2 Henny, welcome over!

OGM, so you think I'll get some geese come by eventually? I've never seen any out there, but I wouldn't doubt it eventually.

Actually the wild ducks that visited were the original reason I agreed to get animals. And what ultimately brought me here. My SIL has farm animals and I asked her how to keep the wild ducks around. Just so happened she had some extra drakes, so we put them on the pond first. Lost them over a bad winter, so I hatched my own and thus started this addiction!! :D

Speaking of wild birds, its wild turkey and diet coke time!! :)

Sweet? Sweet? There is no sweet on this thread. We have salty. We have jalapeno hot. And we for sure have sour

eta: and for Blooie we have got to have amaretto
