Candled 23 eggs last night. 3 dead ringers, one clear, and one questionable. We've got a saddled yolk, too which I don't understand. Those particular eggs only took a 30 minute car ride.

It can happen... depends on age of the egg or age of the hen... older eggs and some laid by older hens, the less jostling that can disrupt the air cell...

Which is why it's amazing that any eggs survive USPS handling...

Exactly! That's why I look at any hatchers from any shipped eggs as miracles, lol...

Also, I have seen an occasional air cell on the side... that could have been it too, and it jostled to the top...

I had some saddled looking yolks under my lavender and the eggs never went anywhere! And they were laid by girls under a year old. Mystery eggs.
