This may be a dumb question, but what's the problem with using bleach (i.e. chlorine) in water to kill bacteria?

1. I hate chlorine taste, so I sure don't want to give it to my birds...
2. Too much is toxic...
3. It doesn't stop algae growth, which is what we are targeting mainly...

You might still be able to use the CS... what oz had issues with was galvanized... easy test, when you get it mix a pinch in a large bowl of water and drop a brass fitting and a piece of stainless steel in and leave it for a few days and see what happens... couldn't hurt to try that... :confused:
