Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

Snow? Ice???

I can't even comprehend that now... we're already set on Broil... :th

Yep, grabbed these pics earlier. Note the snow behind the birds - it's still a foot deep at least.

Thanks, but I am going to work through the business model and cut severely. It looked good on paper before I invested in breeding stock. I'll probably keep a small flock of AC but none of the birds I have today.

One of my nearly grown Ayam Cemani dropped dead last night. No apparent reason but at this point it doesn't much matter. It was my fine young pullet.

It appears I really don't have a market here for specialty breeds. I think I will stick with turkeys and a small, well culled layer flock after everything I have has hatched. Plus a few meaties for the freezer.
so sorry

Sorry about your pullet Walnut

No goose egg today, and there should have been one. Either she took a break from laying or she's started a nest elsewhere, although how she'd do that with all the snow I don't know.

I think I'm going to buy a stock tank de-icer to thaw out their pool. They mate better in water.
that stinks
i wish you were closer i have one i dont use

Its strange the markets in different areas. My area loves silkies and frizzles..

but only cheap ones!

I guess even internet sales didn't seem to be enough to substantiate some of the breeds you were considering?

Without NPIP I won't ship outside the state...and with the flock I have now I will not pursue NPIP. Michigan raised the registration fee to $300 this year (it's run by Michigan Allied Poultry Industry, and designed to inhibit hobbyists). And then there is the per bird test fee.
It's hard to make that up in eggs.
