Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

So far I am really happy with the Freedom Rangers.  Even though they are only a week old, they are doing fine in an outdoor brooder with their hover.  They eat and poop a lot, but not as wet and messy as Cornish Rock.  They are very active and very athletic.  They act just like normal chicks, but after one week they are double the size of the chicks I hatched the same time they were hatched.

Freedom Hatchery says start them off on 22% but I started them on 18%.  I don't like feeding too much protein until they are growing well.  I'm switching them over to turkey starter now and they will stay on that until they are big enough for pellets, then I'll switch to turkey grower.

Keep us posted on their progress! I've heard their meat is a bit darker than Cornish Crosses. Are you free ranging them?

:thumbsup My Red Rangers are only a week older then our laying breeds but are about a pound heavier (probably more, last time I weighed they were 13oz and the layers were 3oz)

Might make it to 4 ounces in a few weeks :D

Renee hatched some gorgeous chocolates. I keep getting blacks and mauves lol. And I think my blue is female :)

Excellent deal. I make those kind, share eggs at least. Got 4 tiny Serama eggs from a guy that I sold 2 cockerels to. Yep, they went in the Bator.
I think you should try mailing a couple eggs, as a test. Ziploc baggie, triple boxed. Would be interesting to see how they fare.
I-bu-pro-fen! :D

Hope the kid is ok. :fl and congrats on the wins!!
I had 2 slow pokes. Checked and one peeped at me! A couple hours later it pipped. 46 hours since the first pip. The other, I could tell had internally pipped, but no movement. Opened it carefully, and found its back in the membrane opening. Looks like it rotated inside and got its beak away from the air pocket and died. I'm betting it happened when it got rolled by other hatchers.

Have a safe trip home. Hope you get lots of babies.
Ouch. Guess I'll leave my boots on then. ;)

I've already got a choc gene and a blue gene, so anything from these is gravy... thanks!!! :hugs

Excuse the mess but 15 little boogers put off alot of fluff while drying! :D

One left pipped in the Bator. :fl Not bad from 19 locked down.

Too cute!!

My early hatcher is still sitting in the bator, looking confused, lol... just now getting some pips in the others...

a blue egg from a silkie???

No, it's cream... just was the flash making it look weird...

My babies needed more than luck. One dead chick, five poults including Oregon Gray. And they were there under the heat 24 hours or more :gag

6 chicks in the hatcher, though.

:hit :hugs

That sucks, so sorry... I just set our first batch of turkey eggs... :fl

Hi all! I didn't get on yesterday so I hope I didn't miss anything!

The thing at TSC was fun, the other person who was supposed to come and have a booth just never showed up, so it was just me. It was okay though, I brought chicks, ducklings, and juvenile pair of ACs (who got a lot of comments) as well as an incubator to demonstrate incubation.

I got lots of questions, gave out my info to some people and have already gotten emails from people wanting to buy some ducklings or chicks. So I think it was a success.

I did have to get a little rude with a woman though. She saw the ducklings and said she wanted one. I told her she needed two. She said again to me she just wanted one. I told her that she really needed two were she to get any for the animals' well-being. She said "Yeah but I only want one."

So I looked her right in the eye and said, "Then you shouldn't have any." Don't think she liked that. I think it might have embarrassed her in front of the people she was with. Oh well, serves her right.

Good deal!! And you were nicer than I woulda been, lol...

Hope they're a full success for you!
