Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

It is actually pretty crazy how much goats can produce. Goats are fascinating!

I just talked to the kids about upping Feta's feed intake again... she is still looking like a good Jersey! I want to try to keep her in milk and put at least a tiny bit of fat on those hips.

Not sure how to measure how much fat is in her milk...but it isn't skim. :) (and Saanen's are known for high quantity but low fat). Even though goat milk is naturally homogenized, Feta's milk has enough fat that little fat clumps settle out over night.
So a goat doesn't have to be bred to produce milk, like a cow?

If you want to up her milk production you can add fenugreek to her grain.

So we only got to go to a swimming spot called the George Hole and then got rained out...Only got a couple of pics and of course they're a bit blurry, but here ya go! We stayed in the shallows because of the kids but on the other side it's pretty deep.

Oats are supposed to help too...

But nah.... about 1.5 gallons a day is plenty for us.

And wouldn't the fenugreek taste nasty?
No, the fenugreek has a slight maple scent and taste but I've never noticed any off flavors in the milk. I used it for a doe that had triplets, after a couple of weeks after they were born her milk production dropped and one of the babies was getting a bit lean. So I started it and her milk production jumped up and the kids all did great. Also once the amount goes up and stabilizes you can stop the fenugreek.
