One if the ducklings drowned.

no idea why! Almost 3 weeks old now, great big, running all over now .....bodies are now longer than 8 inches... big ducklings .. shallow little water pan/pond (maybe 2 feet in diameter ?) And it had a good big rock in it, specifically so ducklings can climb out if they fall in.

I just don't know what happened.

At least it wasn't the singleton, and it wasn't a snazzy color. still sad though.

Oh dang.... I had that happen with a punk rock chick.... it was chipmunk and that a shock of a mowhawk fuzz on its head.... It was after that that i started putting chicken wire over their drinking water.... tucked down about a half inch under the water.

Happened before BYC.

Well, we made it back... kids had a rooster fiasco while we were gone. DD "forgot" to shut the coop Friday night and left the gate open. DS got up Saturday morning to let everyone out, and roosters were everywhere. Thankfully they were all still alive. (I did a head count this afternoon when we returned.) Whew! That could have ended so very badly, but DD is all excuses and no apologies. She was just so "exhausted" Friday (because she didn't have work or school, and apparently that makes you "exhausted".) She and I will talk. We will talk when I'm not in the mood I currently inhabit.

I'm home! That was a fun time. All told I came home with the Call pair and the Brahma pair. Almost a sebastopol goose but we didn't have a big enough crate/box for her

The brahmas seem okay now. They guzzled water once I got them settled into quarantine and the cockerel stopped coughing. However, I forgot to get pictures of them, lol.

Here's my little Call pair settled into their quarantine area:

There were so many birds there. Seeing the show birds makes you realize how hatchery birds don't even begin to hold a candle to these guys. Honestly it's sad what hatcheries have done to some of the breeds.

My Dad was in love with this African goose:

The picture doesn't begin to do justice to the size of this guy. That pen is three feet tall.

There were also dewlap Toulouse:

Tons of sebastopols, too, nearly a whole row of them. Not one Tufted Roman - guess I better bring some next year!

There were so many bantams, including ko shamo which I am now in love with and plan to add next year. And lots of stunning LF too. This Jersey Giant was huge:

This silver phoenix was stunning:

There were even LF Sultans, which you really don't ever see, including a black one:

There were also tons of Calls. I almost bought a pencilled pair too but decided not to - their bills were overly long.

interesting how most?all? ducks have the same wild type coloration. Even Muscovy look like that.

Because all domestic ducks except Muscovy were derived from mallards, lol...

I lost one of Crash's babies first night... missed a water bowl in their area that they shouldn't have had...

Dang it. That stinks.

We made it home safe thank goodness. My daughter actually put the ducks up for me even though I had told her we would be home before dark. Nice when someone is actually thoughtfull for a change.
She said they wouldn't go in for her though she had to pick them all up.
