Most interesting part about heating pads. I realize many on BYC love the MHP, but I've never been a fan. Now I'm sure I'm not a fan.

From that article:

Heating pads: It is almost impossible to find a heating pad or electric blanket that does not use PTFE-coated wires in its construction. Since these wires are specifically meant to be heated, they are in danger of outgassing -- especially if the wires are old or cracked. If you need to provide heat for your bird, use a ceramic bulb or other infrared source that does not rely on heated wires.

but then what about the commercially produced ones, like the ones from Brinsea? How do they heat the flat surface if not with wires? ?????

The entire surface itself heats up, as opposed to a heating pad where just the wires inside are meant to heat up. I don't think teflon-coated wires are used in heat plates.

The outgassing would be so negligible I personally would not worry..... Especially since I wouldn't have the birds in a tightly sealed area. But that's just me......

Oh trust me. . I have a whole ocd routine I have to do before I leave where I go around and touch all the knobs on the stove etc. So that I can remember that I shut it all off. And if I leave and forget to do my routine. . I go back and and do it.
I may have an undiagnosed problem lol.

I used to drive home and then wonder if I locked the door at work....... So I'd drive all the way back to work. (About 35 miles one way)
And check the door..... So I'd really try to do something so I could remember if I locked the door or not.
