Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

Makes more sense now. And her little "I wasn't talking about Equimax" retort smacked of teens or very early 20s. She seemed not to be able to follow what I was trying to say to the OP, and then completely abandoned the thread once I started using big words. :gig (just here, on the pond, I will admit to almost... Almost... throwing an entire lexicon of multi-syllabic terminology her general direction. But then, compassion for the poor OP who is going to have to sift through that pulled me from my maleficious intentions.):lau

I was about to jokingly post saying to give people in their early twenties a break because I'm in my early twenties, but I just realized I'm not anymore :th In two days I am officially exactly midway through my twenties.

I love winter:confused: Outside almost every day all day:yaGood afternoon:frow:frow I was out at sunrise breaking ice filling water. Working on DDs car . Need to set a better roll of hay in for the ninny goats . Its water every couple of hours .Fill the coffee cup about the same . Its a beautiful day. Pond ice here is at least six inch's thick . How's they day gone?
How's the goat doing?

Here's the frizzle cockerel I kept this year. He's not looking his best in this picture since he's a bit hunched up against the cold. I'm gonna try to get better pictures when it's not so ridiculously freezing.

He's pretty! I have a frizzle bantam cochin growing out, thinking its a pullet so far, very dark. Sometimes she looks more blue, sometimes she looks black. Mom is blue, dad is blue mottled.

Yeah the way I set mine up they don't have access to the wires..... Mine is inside it's own cover...... Then I make a wire mesh cave..... Then I wrap a towel around it and duct tape it..... Pretty fool proof.......

... Get you all guess where I am?

FISHING! :celebrate

Yeah, if the power goes out and they are plunged into temps they haven't acclimated to, if the difference is too severe, they go into shock and die, unfortunately.

We've been really cold here and my coops are totally open on the front, entirely wire. No losses and no frostbite here. With wind chill yesterday we were at something crazy like -45 and they all still did fine. Didn't come out of the coop, but they coped.

Thank goodness it's warming up this week.
That normal winter temps...... The heat lamps don't heat my coop anyways as it's fairly large. Plus the doors are wide open from dawn to dusk and only my Cayogas aren't coming out...... Even my ACs come out on all but the coldest days.
The ducks never sit by the lamps anyways.
But if it's severe enough these a warm area for then.
But heat lamps don't raise the temp in my coop one degree. It's wide open around the top too for ventilation.... But I'm sure not gonna laugh if someone who is trying to do the best for their birds has a catastraphe.
But yeah if the power went out no biggy I'll start my generator. But those bulbs do not raise the temp of my coop one bit they are only light bulbs. Heck if they were that good id heat my house with them.

My twins are 20 - they would take offense because, like you, they're pretty darn smart... But they have some friends who make my point exactly. :) Maturity is maturity, regardless of age.

You're probably fine then, I wouldn't worry about it. It's when they get used to the warmer temps and the whole coop is much warmer than it is outdoors or when they all constantly huddle under the heat lamp and then the heat goes out that it's a problem.

I definitely wouldn't laugh if someone lost their whole flock, but she's been told it's a bad idea to heat her coop the way she is so that it's something like a 60 degree difference between the outside and her coop temp. If the power goes out and she loses her birds because she decided to ignore all the advice she got, she would have only herself to blame. It's the birds I feel bad for mostly. They'd be the ones to pay with their lives.

Yes, but you have common sense and intelligence! A rarity amongst your age group. And you don't spout off just to be part of the conversation not caring about what you're saying or who it might affect in a negative way. Peeps here respect you! And you've earned!:hugs

I'm just immature and embracing my inner child.
