Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

My Dad used the pressure cooker a lot. The sound of the metal do- jig was common in that house. So pressure cookers don't scare me but then we don't own one yet.
x2 mom used it alot before microwaves.

Pressure canners on the flip side scare me alot. Higher pressure more heat and timing is essential... Summer kitchen will have a concrete bunker around the canner.... so if it goes everything will go up....

Sounds to me like the boy has a good head on his shoulders! I like the kid.

“You may write your name in my dust. Just please don’t date it!”

I grew up a city kid. Never had a home-canned thing in my life. My SIL did a lot of canning, and I learned from her.

I am so glad you had a chance to ask the nurse questions and get a few things explained. :hugs

Yay!!!! :yesss:
The dust here is awfull..
It's going in the bator...:lau

there are different types of cedar.... its the VERY fragrent one that you have to worry about. Like the cedar for Cedar chests. The one used for fencing is ok... his shavings may have been from that....

Only partially a myth....

I did a little research and have to agree with you. Depends on the type of cedar. Some packaged shavings say cedar, but really are a different genus too.
I guess its easier just to avoid it all, but at least I'm not terrified now.

Now if only he'll keep doing it.. I might get enough to hatch..:th
This ones going in the bator for sure tho...:lau

:clap good doggie!
I collected Phoebe's eggs a few days ago, and couldn't find her new hiding spot. She moves every time I take her eggs. But Jax, the drake, usually hangs around close to wherever she is laying. So this morning, I watched him, and I finally spotted her, tucked in behind my baby coop. There's maybe a 4" gap between it and the wall of the building. Little stinkers.
So keep an eye on your drakes. They may show you where the eggs are. :D

Question for you, since you're hatching BCM atm:
Do they normally have white on them at birth? Of the 3 I've held so far, they all have white somewhere; one has a white throat, one has an all-white belly.

ETA: Just heard from @Auroradream26, a breeder of BCM up in PA. She assures me the white is common on the chicks.

Yup, they're little penguins!

Sucky hatch here too! Only got the 2 CLs and thought I had a pair, but I now think they are both male. So...I found a local guy on FB with 4 females for sale, hatched the same day as mine, so I bought them. Now let's pray they are healthy. I haven't bought any live birds for quite a while. But these are just 4 days old.

I just cranked up the humidity on the single bantam Ameraucauna egg that is still alive. Lost the rest of those eggs long ago, but the one carries on. I just couldn't bring myself to chuck it. Now what? Lol (CAM wasn't fully developed, so I actually doubt it will hatch anyway)

I really enjoy my bantam Ams... no idea what you would do with just one... but I still hope it hatches for you. :fl

Does anyone here use cedar shavings for chickens? I always "heard" cedar was toxic, but the guy I got these chick from uses is and says he always has, with no problems. It smells better. Is that just one of those myths I believed for no good reason?

ah... already answered

Dang I'm tired. Went to bed at 2. Back up at 5. Got everybody fed & out the door by 6:30. Got some of their chores done already. I've had at least 4 cups of coffee & just wanna go back to bed. :caf Is this what normal people do everyday??? :hit I don't wanna 'Adult' anymore.

I hate adulting. :tongue

fake eggs! That way she doesn't think her nest was found. Constantly searching sucks.

did you carbon date them? :lau

Yeah... there is some discussion that maybe the solid black ones will have better color as adults... or that maybe it is just a breeding line thing :idunno
