Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

Well, I'm fed & caffeinated. I better get back to work, but this is pretty much how I feel about things today...

You rescued her and got her out of a bad situation. She would definitely be happier with another duck, but anything is better than being abandoned in a parking lot.

This seems like a good excuse to get another duck to me :p You just HAD to get another duck, no way around it :lau You could get a nice quiet drake that needs a home, or a muscovy :D

I'm not an enabler or anything

Hahaha! You are SUCH an enabler! :highfive: I'd love to have a drake (quiet & beautiful) but everybody free ranges together & I wouldn't want his screwy penis falling off in one of my chickens. ;) :lau I checked into Muscovy. Theres a byc breeder near me who has beautiful birds, but I was told that Muscovy speak a whole different dialect of duck & that it would be as foreign to her as chicken speak. If I could only get one more it would be different, but that would be cruel to the new comer. Her BFF brahma is getting really old so I'm gonna have to do something for her sooner than later.

Cap, I'm sweating bricks over this! Technically I'm only about 120miles south of LA (that's 3+ hours by car, so it feels farther than it really is.) SBD is only about an hour NE of here. Our little flock is more like pet dogs than chickens. I cant even fathom somebody coming in here & telling me they're taking/killing my pets for preventative reasons. If God forbid that happens, it will be the end of me.
Yeah my birds are all pets too.....

You can keep a drake in with chickens without him mating them, as long as he's happy with his mate :) I have a separate pair that lives with my chickens - a pekin and a WH - and the WH never even thinks about the chickens. He likes his pekin lady. My Call drakes are the same way, I only have pairs right now and they are happy to stick to their duck girlfriends and don't bother the chickens. I think the drakes mating chickens thing is mostly only a problem when there are no female ducks at all, or way more males than females. I've actually never once had a drake try to mate with my chickens.

poultry and birds only....

Are you buying diesel? What state is ripping people off so much?
California... and I was buying regular unleaded. Last time I topped off the Diesel ran me 150 35 gallons at 4+ per gallon. Thank goodness the truck gets the same mileage as the Camray.

There are a couple of reasons the price goes sky high in summmer. There is a special formula we use during summer time. And the Only refineries that can make it are In California.... And there are only two of them. They are both at End of life as far as a refinery goes but California powers that be wont allow the construction of a new one.

Year round we have the highest tax of tall the states with regards to fuel... 58.83 cents per gallon.... feds get 18 percent then another couple add on another 11 percent for other stuff. part of that last is sales tax at 9 percent but each county or city cacharge more .... So sales tax varies from 9 to 12 percent

Grand total is 76.7 percent plus or minus

we live close enough to buy gas in Mexico at a decent rate but you take your chances if its a good quality.... No sand or water in it.

Sadly Perchies gas sounds about right. Its been $3.69 for regular at the cheap place down the street for a while. You can usually get it a little cheaper if you want to wait in line at Costco for 20mins. deb is about an hour SE of here. I don't know if that makes hers cheaper or more expensive than mine.
place I go charges 3.85 and its off the beaten track so better prices.

Ok, changing the subject. Here's a before & after pic per bobbi's request.

I like the after. You done did good. Smack anyone who says otherwise. :old

Our feed store had a pair of geese that lived at the store forever. When one of them died suddenly, you never saw such mourning. :hit I swear if that guy could've eaten a bullet he would have. It went on for months & months. They eventually tried to introduce another goose, but it never really took. We felt terrible for him.

See that is the only problem with geese.... when they super bond up it can be so hard to get them interested in another partner. May grandparents had a trio.... over the years they finally had just the gander left. They never bought him another mate... but even in hindsight, I don't think that was wrong. I don't think he would have bonded with a new girl, and they didn't want more geese. Tricky business when they bond so tightly. They did have chickens BTW.

Anybody seen AL the last couple days?

here... just spending lots of time sleeping... darn cough... I am not sleeping well... and my arthritis is flared up. :(

I think the drakes mating chickens thing is mostly only a problem when there are no female ducks at all, or way more males than females.

See I think a HUGE component of that is the people that brood the ducklings with the chicks. Then they grow up thinking they are the same species.

I think if you brood them separately then all is usually good.
