Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

Found out right before Christmas that my only brother has stage 4 lung cancer that has possibly spread to his spine & kidneys. He's diabetic, was/is a heavy drinker, drug user (not the sharpest knife in the drawer), & was already in the hospital for an infection that started in a toe & wouldn't heal. Toe was amputated, then the foot, & finally the leg, just below the knee. Survival rate beyond 5 years is 2% or less. He'll be 61 in February if he makes it that far.
Can't like that either.
Do you see much of him?

Thanks WV! It's a better semester coming up (at least grading-wise) - i will still have my two sophomore classes, and the Children's Lit class at SU which will require grading, but I'm getting a handle on choosing one or two assignments to intensively grade, and speeding through the rest. I'll still have choir and piano, but I'm scaling those back a bit as well. I really just want a tiny bit if daylight to do birds and run.
How are all your people? I think I saw a tadpole pic on FB - growing like a weed (a pretty weed like vetch, not an ugly one like crabgrass - :) )

You sure jumped back in with both feet. Even the bad one!
How’s the ankle doing now?
All is well in my neck of the woods.

Well damn. Sorry to hear that. Are you close? (as in good buddies, and as in does he live near you) :hugs

Hope she is ok, food poisoning is rough, if that’s what it is.
Was hoping to see the Tadpole today also, but looks like probably tomorrow.
He's in western NC, not far from the TN line. He just got transferred to the Cancer Center of Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem.

No, we haven't been close in a whole lot of years. With the difference in ages, I wasn't around him much when he was little; he was only 8 when I married. He was always in & out of trouble as an adolescent, got into illicit drugs & alcohol, & was generally a screw-up. I tried to establish a relationship with him several years ago, again, but finally wrote him off when he screwed over our father & got into me for over $17k, which I've known for years that I'd never see. Still, he's my brother, & I feel obligated to go see him while I can. My one sister's in a nursing home & wouldn't know him if she tripped over him (dementia), & I'm not sure the other would go see him; he's left a real bad taste in all our mouths.

Thanks, Sour! Did you get to spend time with your kids over Christmas?

No. :hit Daughter and her family went to California to be with grandson who is in college there. Son and his family were coming today, but we just cancelled them. Princess got sick last night. We thought she was okay, but when she got up we discovered she is far less than 100%. Better for her to rest today and not expose anyone else if she is contagious.

Tomorrow is granddaughter's birthday so if 'E' is okay we will visit that family, and perhaps next week we will go to Annapolis to see son and his family.

Crum, kwhites. ..I'm really sorry to hear this. I know you'll make the right decision. But still a bummer to go through. :hugs

That’s rough. I do hope you get to see him. It can be a fine line with family. Damned if ya do, damned if ya don’t. Just have to do what your heart tells ya.

Oh no! I hope Princess has a speedy recovery so you can make that trip next week. Do you think you'll get to see your daughter anytime soon? Are your kids good communicators so even if you don't see them, you get the chance to talk? (I have one that is and one that isn't. )
