Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

I think youve got it!

Sometimes there are just runts  causes are too numerous for me to dig into could be genetic could be inbreeding depression (which quail suffer from much worse than chickens) could just be that he was pushed away from the feed too many times too young and will catch up :fl
Nice.
There are almost always rings of one sort or another. I don’t think it’s inbreeding, my males are A&M and the females are regular.

:frow:thI lost the entire weekend to Beau  Beau thinks no dog kennel is strong enough to hold him . He is so big he can reach the top of a six foot panel, standing on his hind legs . I'm pretty upset with some dog people right now .:rantBeau tore a hole five feet off the ground:eek: in the kennel panel and climbed through it :eek:Well the top of the hole is six feet . We were afraid he would hurt Joe :confused:Large choker chain and a chain lead and a sturdy tree, got me a nasty scratch on my right fore arm . Sent DW for flush and she came back with 90 proof isopropyl alcohol . Only stung a little bit :lau She was mad at the dog and the guy that gave me the dog :idunnoNot Beaus fault . Can't say That I totally agree with the saying there are no bad dogs . Just bad trainers maybe 99.9 % Anybody that turns a dog out with any other animal without teaching the dog at least the basics ,is really looking for trouble .Any nut that says just turn them out with the flock and leave them alone doesn't need to own a single dog . I'm still trying to figure out what they did to Bella :idunnoSo I spent three days first figuring out how . Then using self tapping one a half inch #8 sheet metal screws . I screwed insulators to the top middle and bottom of each panel. there are twelve panels in his pen. I think the total was 75 . I got a 100 of each . First just did the top without fixing the hole just hot wired across it . Charged the fence and shorted a spark and Beau tore the wire down getting out the hole .:( That was dark Sunday. Once I got him back in and chained to a solid wall, where he spent the night . I was out checking on him all night long .So yesterday I repaired the hole finished running the rest of the wire and charging it . When we turned him loose again . He stood there and barked at the hole, well where it was for a little bit and tried to go through it again . Got tangled in all the hot wires ,and it was awful made me feel like a heel . Broke a few insulators I replaced those tightened the wire . And he tried one more time and now its over .:thAmazingly he still loves me . If somebody had just taught him to wear a collar and lead ,we wouldn't have gone through all that . He will lead some now. Just a little . He isn't mean at all. Very affectionate and intelligent. Capable of far more than I have time to teach him .I got to have three fun filled days with the dogs. :thAnd I only heard you wanted the dogs once or twice :lau:lau

Well, yesterday was the classic good news/bad news, fortunately heavier on the good side. Bad side, found a lash egg on the tray below the roost bar. Pretty sure it came from my little BA that looks more like a black leghorn (of course she's my favorite and the only one that always wants to be picked up :( ) She wasn't acting herself for a couple days last week, a couple "jelly" shelled eggs found I suspected was from her but then she perked back up. Maybe she actually worked thru the infection and it wasn't EYP. Time will tell, sigh. If she survives her "production" is probably destroyed but I don't care. We have way more eggs than I know what to do with anyway. Why do I always wind up making pets of the underdogs and/or the least likely to make it long term? Think this might answer why I made such a lousy farmer when I was younger?
Now the good news. All clear from the dr. Still on crazy weight restrictions (20 lbs? Can any of you manage to get anything done only lifting less than 20 lbs?) Little over 3 wks til my final checkup :fl then I will be on a permanent (with serious warning not to violate) weight limit of 40 lbs and a couple movement no-no's . Guess I can live with that.
Oh, and guess who's been offered a job with the Census, again? (worked several "campaigns" in the past. At least three just in 2009/10) Easiest money I ever made. Hate the paperwork tho.
