I'm fortunate my hubby is nice and let's the birds out for me in the mornings. Just ducks here, no chickens.Don't you still have to get up at the crack of dawn to do the animals?
I could do with a couple of those I won't bother setting the alarm days.![]()
I would go for insane.
Are you sure I can't talk you into knocking the whole thing down, salvaging what you can and building a small earth beamed environmentally friendly dwelling.![]()
I wasn't being offensive, but I think you know that...I'm fortunate my hubby is nice and let's the birds out for me in the mornings. Just ducks here, no chickens.
Well. .you haven't been around me here enough to see the things my husband builds.
He is a contractor, builds all metal buildings for a living.
This place is right close to the work shop where his crew meets and works. He has worked for this family for close to 20 years. We will have access to borrow the kind of equipment we need to do whatever needs done.. And access to sheet metal at discount prices. .or sometimes free when traded for labor.
A lot of what we will do will be done with metal.
The building is all concrete. It should actually be pretty low energy to heat and cool once we add a drop ceiling and insulate.
May look into solar panels.
The shop side will be able to have a wood stove for heat in winter.
The purpose of having the huge shop is so eventually he can work for himself and build whatever he wants to sell. . or just build beams for the crew from home.
Half of all that space will just be shop.
Nope not offended in the least little bit.I wasn't being offensive, but I think you know that...
Having designed and built the house I live in and done a substantial amount of similar work when I was in the UK, I know a mission when I see one.
I do know both you and your other half have access to plant and tools; I didn't know about the back door materials but I guess that goes with the job. I still have a few cubic metres of fencing materials rusting away in the UK.
Of course, if you already have a home close by then hopefully you'll be able to avoid the distress of trying to live in a building site.
I'll follow along with great interest if you post progress reports.
5 acres imo is about a perfect plot. It's large enough to make productive for a family and small enough to manage.
I really do hope it all goes well for you both. It's still going to be a lot of work, even with heavy plant and no doubt assistance from your husbands crew and friends.
Feeling needed is very imortant! You're a great daughter Orr!I know exactly what you're saying and I did tell E that if she cries when I take her up there, she's probably just going to be coming back w me.
It's not that brother is bad or anything; she's just bored and lonely there. Here, it's the "I get that you're like a kid now and need kid-like stuff to do" activities that she loves. She just helped me pit 6 lbs. of cherries. Feeling needed is kinda important.
Nice one!I only kept one.... Fileted it up and gave it to Raul for himView attachment 1798093 to grill.....
Hello, Pond!
I've been popping in off and on today, checking in - just haven't taken the time to post anything. Now that school's out, I'm in full-on Camp mode. It starts next Sunday. There are still buildings to clean, groceries to buy, precooking to do, and my own packing and getting the house ready for me to be gone for 3 weeks. (DH does a lot around here, but hopefully he'll get to be in the field some day. There is still time to plant beans, but it's sketchy for corn.)
I hope I don't miss anyone-
@perchie.girl - Deb, hang in there! You're getting so close, and I'm so excited for you! You are worth it. I'm so glad your mom will be helping with Grandma. (And hopefully will be able to help you, too?
@Alaskan - Glad your retina's not detaching. When I started getting floaters, I asked my eye Dr. what causes them. He just smiled and said, "Too many candles on your birthday cake."
@orrpeople - You're in a tough spot. Do you have room for your mom? Does she live with your brother full time? I'm an only child, so when my mom needs help, it's just me. It's OK, though. She's done so much for me, when it's my turn I'll do it.
@chickisoup - Have a fun day thrifting and antiquing!
Hi @Fields Mountain Farm and @room onthebroom!
@LittleLakePhil - That salmon looks delicious! DH smoked a fillet for us for supper the other night. Definitely my favorite way to eat it! Can't wait to get some fresh grilled this summer, though.
@sourland - Hey, Sour!
@WVduckchick - WV, how are you?
OK, off to hang up one more load of clothes and get back to work in my kitchen. I've lost it. I know it's under there somewhere....
X2Oh, only stay upright 24/7 ? He sounds like as big a tool as my G P. SMH at the idiocy.
You want some of mine?Must be year of the broody or something! So far this year I’ve had 8 broody hens and 2 broody ducks.
One of those hen just recently went broody, I’m honesty shocked, I wouldn’t have pinned her for the broody type. She’s a red ranger brown Leghorn Cross.![]()
That is SO COOL!
Of course I will!
Mom always said "Crazy people have the most fun"Nope not offended in the least little bit.
I admit it is an overwhelming task. Like I said. .we may be insane.
I love honest opinions!
You could set up a camper..At this point I'm ready to pop a tent and live there now. I'm so sick of neighbors.
This one house is just been a plague. No-one good ever stays.
Nice lady moved out. Now we are back to cops showing up. . fighting and screaming at 1 and 2 in the morning and a dog running loose harassing my birds.
