Just read an article on the Nat'l Deer Alliance site about a John Roach, from somewhere in northern Michigan, saw a melanistic (jet black) whitetail on his property last week (May 30). Extremely rare mutation.

saw it too (the article). really cool! Hope they didn't give out too much info, but afraid they did, so some fool from Chicago or Milw. sneaks up to shoot it. Wish they hadn't given the guy's full name. With that kind of acreage he's surely in the plat books.

I think I shared before that we belong to a volunteer group Snapshot Wisconsin where we place and monitor cameras from the DNR thru a project supervised by the University of WI. Their goal is to have cameras in blocks of land in every county in the state (not there yet). Anyway, look what one camera caught last fall.
Isn't he a piebald beauty? I'd love to see his genetics in our herd!

Mine came back okay, but only to collect a few memories. Apparently it found somewhere with more space.

I love Piggies.... Love their squeeks and hums when they are talking to girlfriends.... Love the way they can swap ends at a moments notice.... Love the way when they are born their ears are huge and eyes too... they have as big a squeek as momma...
And can run right away as well as nibble on hay.

And if there are more than two born they wait in line to nurse... Cause momma has only two spigots.

Wild child was the first born here.... OMG the cowlicks on him .... Jet black too and very active...

I've never even seen a baby g.pig. Ours have always come to us kind of old & damaged. Darling is a bit on the old side, but she's otherwise perfect. My other pig has been so sad since our 1st pig Cavy died. The silence has been deafening. Its great having pig song back in the house again. These two have A LOT to say to each other.

I don't have to worry about that. Theres plenty of empty space in my head.

My favorite neighbors are 1st gen Polish. Guinea pig is translated as Sea Pig. I guess in German its Little Sea Pig. I love it!

Its been in the 90s all wk. Yesterday i put my 1 wk old quail outside and well after the sun went down they still werent huddled without a brood lamp so theyre off light full time after their first day outside. Our pools the children and i are all great friends

Wednesday we have a custody court hearing, id sure appreciaye any prayers for it. Super nervous, courts having left a long term bad taste in my mouth, should be a no brainer decision in our favor but its Court.

Wednesday is tumro. Geez man the insanity.

Hope to see a wonderful update later about court!

Meet the newest addition to The Broom. We named her Fabia Darling. She's a 4yr old guinea pig that we adopted from the Humane Society. We're still completely freaking her out, but she's super sweet & I know she'll warm up quickly.

MORNING PONDERS!!! We're still here!
I watched the radar last night as the storm line split in two like Moses parting the Red Sea and we never even got a drop of rain!!!! Not so fortunate for others, sadly but I haven't heard yet of any major damage and because of the split, I think, the winds weren't nearly as strong as predicted. Bad news is DH is outside dragging out the hoses because now we have to water!

The one above is about twic the size of a newborn... Probably a week old.

yep they are best kept in pairs or groups. Their nature suggest they fit the requirements for herd animals.
born with their eyes open
Able to run as fast almost as the momma
Able to taste food in the environment if not eat it.
As in herd animals they will allow breeding on the first heat hafter giving birth... in horses that is called a foal heat and runs about two weeks after... In guinea pigs it runs about an hour...

so if you have a male in with her even though he wont hurt the babies id get him out before she delivers... Learned that one the hard way... Came home with three piggies by the end of three months I had twelve.... and more on the way....

They have no jumping ability so the best they can do is scurrying up things. So a low fence barrier and you can let them free range in the yard... their main food is grass so they wont damage plantings.
