Good Monday morning Pond,
Hope you all had a decent weekend. Our snow has already pretty much disappeared. Hope we get some rain soon. Things are getting pretty "crispy" around here. Still in a red flag area.
All this dead stuff still laying all over from last year's windstorm/tornadoes on top of the brown stuff is making everyone a wee bit nervous. At least the wind has finally laid down.

@bobbi-j that sounds like weird behavior for a beaver. Has Ruger had his rabies shot, and did the beaver leave ? Good morning Peeps of the Pond.

Ruger is up on all of his shots. He’s a farm dog and feels it’s his duty to eradicate any and all 4-legged intruders from the farm. Cat also goes outside so he is also vaccinated for rabies. Especially now with little granddaughter who likes to lay on him and chew on him every chance she gets.

We’re not terribly worried about the beaver’s behavior. We have a big slough right across the road from out driveway to the north, a small lake at the west end of our property, and a larger lake about a mile to the east of us. We figure it was probably moving from one place to another and got intercepted by the dog. The way they were both huffing and puffing, I think they’d been at it for a while. No blood on the dog, and from what we cold tell, none on the beaver, although the dog had a mouthful of fur when I called him off. I think the poor thing was just exhausted from it’s encounter with Ruger. They were doing the circling and jumping at each other routine when I first saw them.

@bobbi-j I know the 'circling and jumping at one another' routine. When I was a kid, long long ago, the poultry farm up the hill had an English setter who was a pro at property protection. He would get his quarry circling, quickly change direction, grab it by the neck and shake it to death. He was a memorable dog.

Ma always talked of two dog they had Jack and Shadow both black fuzzy hounds they would accompany her through the cotton mouths out of her way....

Well..... we got to go to church yesterday!!!

We had blue crosses taped on the floor... far enough apart so each family group could squish together on a cross and still be far enough away from the next family huddle.

So odd!!!!

And of course there was an entire thing before we started that you had to whisper sing... unless you knew you were at least 10 feet away from another group... but don't worry, it was hot enough, that the windows were open, you were welcome to stand outside by a window, and bellow/ sing as loud as you wanted, as long as your mouth faced away from the window.

Oh good grief!

So yep, some more restrictions lifted... groups of 50 are now allowed.

glad to hear you at least were able to attend church. Hopefully you and yours will be able to attend a more normal service soon. Nothing open to any degree here yet but the way the numbers are holding things should loosen up more here soon. I'm thinking I should be back to some form of census work by the end of the month. Even the "citizens" that have been marching around our state capital have pretty much gone home because they finally realized that the only place the numbers were seriously climbing was amongst the idiots in the crowds linking arms, marching w/o ppe and taking selfies.

Don't know if I mentioned but it looks like there's a good chance that logging will finally begin on the property in the next week or two.

I’ve seen Ruger do that with raccoons and a stray tomcat once. I think he figured that our visitor last night was just too beg to do that with.

We bought bagels yesterday from the bagel store. It was the first time we’ve eating anything not cooked at home for 7+wow & man o’ man were they good!

I’ve spent a week cleaning out & organizing the garage & I’m nowhere near done.

Also spending my ‘free time’ looking for a new oven range. After jerking around with my current one, only working 50% of the time, for 19 long months, I’m just done with it. Problem is all the new gas ranges are controlled by electrical panels. So stupid & an instant death sentence with my electric zapping superpower. Anybody got a new gas range that they can recommend?

Well, back to the grindstone for me.
