Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

I was sad kid 2 was leaving...

So decided we had to hand him a lucky marzipan new years pig ....

I remembered that I had a can of marzipan in the pantry. :clap

So... I told kid 5 to make lucky new year pigs..

Watch this speed!

Step 1. Decide I want lucky marzipan pigs
Step 2. Command child #5
Step 3. Kid gets can, can opener and food color
Step 4. Open can, pop out marzipan, add dye, kneed to mix dye into marzipan
Step 5. Make pig

All done!

Ta da!!!

He is making more... one for each of us. :love

That is adorable :)

What are everyone's New Year's traditions?

We always play a family game of Monopoly. This year, we got Cards Against Humanity (family edition) so the kids want to play that too. We always make a platter with summer sausage cooked in sweet and sour sauce, cheese cubes, and crackers. We just randomly munch all evening while playing our games. DH drinks his Jack and coke, I have my wine (and some captain and coke) and and the kids have soda and sparkling grape juice. By midnight we're all about dead but we bang on pots and pans at midnight then crawl off to bed.
Similar here. Board game marathons, music, snacks for dinner, keeping the animals sane from illegal fireworks…

I don’t know how Beast & Bridgette will react to the noise. We had a preview of what’s to come the other day when someone two blocks away set off what sounded like a mortar explosion. It shook my house & sent the birds running for cover. It’s going to be a long, loud couple of days.

Aww poor buddies. I won’t be home but My neighbor told me the people across the street go crazy with fireworks, so I hope my polish mix won’t get scared coz she hates loud noises. My other chickens should be okay tho, we used to live with our backyard pretty much touching the highway.

Our traditions have changed over the years. When the boys were home and even into college, they’d have friends over and hang out in the basement, we’d have our friends here upstairs. There was always lots of food and pop (and sparkling grape juice at midnight). At some point, a Nerf gun war would break out and everyone would be involved. I would find Nerf darts for a couple of weeks afterwards. Just before midnight, the kids would all emerge from the basement for the countdown. We still had people coming over until the past couple of years. Tonight is supposed to be bitterly cold, so we’re going to stay home. Didn’t have any plans anyway…

I know how I going to spend New Year’s Eve -
