@Alaskan - leeches?

Why yes! Many, many little ones.

I had to carry them into the house, have them stand in a pot (one pot per kid) and pour salt all over their feet.

Once they LOOKED clean I bathed both of them in a bath with LOTS of salt!

NOPE!!! Nope, nope, nope! Those boys would have been on their own! “Sorry, boys. You can’t come in until those things dry up and fall off your feet!” Leeches are one of the two creepy crawlies I can’t handle. Spiders are the other ones.
