Welcome to our money pit ... New pics of our progress

Somewhere on here someone else had a home that was in just as bad if not worse shape from dogs. There is something you can get to let soak on those floors and once sanded and stained and sealed there is another sealer you can get to seal it from that smell. But don't ask me what.

Where is your dad from, you said up North, I am in the UP of MI and I have a tub that has never been used. It is in storage so you would have to clean it but it is a deeper one and a little wider so you get covered by more water. I was going to use it for a yard pond but if you can find someone to get it you can have it. That might help ya out.

That corner cupboard, shame it was painted, most of those have a real nice wood under that paint ya might want to strip that as well.

The pink room should probally be painted first. Looks like pepto bismel exploded in there LOL. Sorry pink is not my favorite color. I like the new pinks, that would be orange for those who do not know LOL.

I seen a very charming home with so much TLC needed, I am glad it is going to be given a face lift and love. It looks like most of the stuff just needed to be picked up and pitched, then a good scrubbing. You can do it.

As far as your gardens go lets wait till you are closer to moving and then we will see what we can come up with. I moved in March, moved my gardens and 95 % of them came up when I replanted in the spring.

Guitarist, for any number of reasons you really should not do anything to improve the house in any way until the title is in your name lock, stock, and barrel. I would not even dust or sweep. Any improvement you make before it's yours could raise the value of it.
Sorry about your father-in-law and the mess you're in, but don't make anything easy for someone else to profit from your work, time, and money.

We have an attorney.... we've discussed all of our options. We have an appraisal that was done last week, and that is what we'll be taking to probate with us. (along with the photos) We weren't planning on doing it this way at first, but our attorney and us agree that considering everything that is in the mix, this is actually are best course of actions and a means to an end. Believe me, we talk this all out with out attorney before making any decisions on anything, and will continue to do so as we go along. Because the entire estate falls under a certain amount the attorney has more options available to him on how to take it through the system.

And yes, we've been watching Freecycle and Craigslist for items that we will need for the bathrooms.

Zoo.... thanks for the offer.... It's only northern LOWER MI

lol Seems north to me, though not quite as north as you

Okay, good luck dealing with the attorney.

Went today and got much accomplished! YAY! Got all of the livingroom junk out on the burn pile and also got the upstairs cleaned up as far as trash went...... I filled 9 40 gallon bags with TRASH that his brother left up there

not to mention all of the clothes and other junk that wouldn't fit into trash bags... got it all hauled down to the livingroom for the next round of burning. So now it's tackling the kitchen and bathrooms. Then I can sanitize and clean the rest and start painting. It's coming along....forgot to take my camera. I'll snap some pics tomorrow..... yeah, that's how I'm spending Christmas...

I wish you all the best with this project. It's lots of back-breaking work, but I'm sure it will be lovely when you're finished. Can't comment on the legal aspects of it, but I hope it all works out the way you need for it to work.

Sometimes the right thing to do isn't always the easiest. Your hubby's dad and grandpa especially would be happy to know the house is being restored, I'm sure.

It sure was a cute house in it's day. Good luck with it.

I know what you went through. I let it go, but I'll never forget it. The ones who sponged my father dry for years are paying for it now big time two years later because they never learned to stand on their own two feet. It's hard to believe sometimes that people who are so opposite were ever raised in the same family.

Keep a vigilant watch on them; they're never to be trusted.
