Fight for your chickens, since they give you such joy... and I agree with what many others have said. Your family may take a while to process that you're gay but realize it doesn't change who you are. It may take weeks or months, hopefully not years, but if you keep the door open, chances are someday they will walk through. In the meanwhile, a (((hug))) to get over the speedbump in life's road...

Also no reason to bail on the board. Last I checked, owning chickens wasn't a requirement!

    So right Tygab...

    I agree, Lockedhearts.

I'm so sorry that your friend has wandered off the chickening path...If you could "board" the birds that you really want to keep, that might be a good idea.
Her not wanting you to see your birds, is just a copout. As is the I'm just gonna sell and they cost too much...she's just making excuses.

As for being gay...for most families, it may not be a shock, but with strict religious backgrounds, they DO have a tendency to freak out... Try coming out of the broom closet...

You're still welcome, whether or not you have birds...we're an online family...

wow, I don't know you that well at all and I can see that there is soooooooooo much support for you here! you are a lucky woman. hang in there girl!

I live here in so. Cal. I have a group of 4H kids that could possibly be interested in the chickens. let me know. Most of yours are bantams and thats what we usually show. I will be at the APA nationals in Ventura on the 25th and 26th. if you need to sell them or find homes that is an awesome opportunity, if you can make it there. nationals don't come to the West Coast that often. this is a great time to mingle with other chickeners.

Hey, I'm so sorry all this happened. I know we are far from you (Alameda), but if you can't find a home closer to you we might be able to take your girls in. How many do you have?

Do what is best for you and if your "friend" can't accept that, then they where never really your friend. You are who you are, and that is where it begins and ends. Telling your parents what you did takes more confidence and sense of self than many are every able to muster. I see so many people who are miserable living a life to please others. It isn't worth it.

You sound like you have a job and some money to spare. Why don't you rent a house somewhere and move away from your parents and have all the chickens you want and can care for. You are on the verge of losing a friend because of chickens; it's not worth that.

I'm so glad that you have a place to come to for support. There's a lot of people who don't even have that. Just remember, if you're ever having a hard day you can come to BYC and laugh and cry with the rest of us. And you sound fairly young, just know it won't be like this forever. Someday, when you're older, you and your SO can have a whole buttload of chickens on your OWN land, and no one will be able to do a darn thing about it! [IMG]
