We're upping our layer flock! I convinced my dad to build a whole additional coop, and fill it with wonderful egg laying hens.

(Hopefully) 16 hens to be exact, and at most, 2 roosters. Now it's his job to build, my job to find out prices, and my mom's future job will be to sell.

I've picked out my breeds for my hens, but was wondering what to thought of my choices.

Production red,
Easter egger,
Marans,
Leghorn,
Ancona,
Wyandotte,
Orpington,
Cream Legbar,
Olive egger,
Barnevelder.

And for my rooster(s),
Jersey Giant,
Brahma.

Suggestions would be awesome.

How exciting! I'm voting for a Jersey Giant rooster.
I fell in love with my sister's Jersey Gaint rooster. He is HUUUGE and lets anyone pick him up like a baby. Hoping mine will be a good boy, because we have to drive 40 minutes away to another feedstore to get him.

I just have Orpingtons ad I think they are the perfect birds! They lay big eggs andf frequently. They are sweet, lay all winter, are big enough for meat, and will brood if you let them. SO far none if mine brood. But they are supposed to :p I has 23 laying hens and got 15-25 eggs a day in the winter. Mine are organic eggs, and sell for a cheap $4 a dozen. You can get more where you live. People are poor here.
