Well, don't feel so bad. My Golden Laced Sebright was 10 months old when her pea comb finnaly grew, she never squatted and just started to lay 2 weeks ago...oh, and she is now BROODY! So.....yeah. chickens are weird.

lol! Yeah that is totally funny. My Brahma laid for about 2 months and then went into a molt

Good luck with your hen! It seemed I had to wait forever after switching to silkies (as opposed to mutts which start laying at 4 months) and had to wait 8 months. The earliest I got was 7 months and 1 week. The latest 8 months 3.5 weeks...

Can't wait to see your eggs (and hopefully a pic of the hen...?)
