My teeth feel fine, they dont hurt at all, but its hard to eat becuase it hurts to chew on my left side. (whenever I get a big chunk of food on that side, my jaw "cramps" up. idk what it is)

well, its a jolt alright, but not that bad. I can chew through the hurting, but then it swells pretty bad.
Btw, the swelling has gone above my ear now... please tell me I just have an infection in my glands... PLEASE!

Doctor trip tommarow... yay.

And it throbs too.

I went to the dentist and had some fillings done and afterwards couldn't sleep for 2 weeks or so because the pain was so bad in my jaw, I never had anything done with it and had to sleep sitting up with a ice pack on my face waking up at 10 minute intervals to switch between hott and cold. My friend had the same thing happen to her but she got hers checked out ends up the dentist when giving that shot in her mouth to numb went back to far into the jaw bone and cracked it or something. Or there is possible TMJ which is painful and I hope you do not have.

kinda sounds like a condition called TMJ which affect the jaw and ear. It's kinda like out of alignment.

The chiropractor can put your jaw back in alignment or at least thats what he told me I never tried it though. My jaw pops horribly when I eat my brother thinks its gross you can hear it in restraunts even when people are talking.

Might be TMJ. Temporal Mandibular Joint dysfunction. There are 2 types. One type is where the jaw dislocates and the other type is when the cartilage that should be cushioning your jaw is in the wrong spot. You can have it on one side or both sides. Lucky me I have both types on both sides. I have been to specialists, but the meds they put me on made me fall asleep while driving. Later I found ont that magnesium is a natural muscle relaxer and in about 2 weeks of taking it I felt a lot better. Now I still don't chew gum or anything but I don't want to have my jaw removed anymore.

Here is a link that has a self test to help you figure out if that may be the problem.

Good Luck!!

Emzyyy- What happened to your friend after that?!

and yes, ive read about TMJ as well....

Muscle involvement causes inflammation of the membranes surrounding the joint. Teeth grinding (bruxism) and clenching are habits that may be diagnosed in people who complain of pain in the temporomandibular joint or have facial pain that includes the muscles involved in chewing (myofascial pain).

that sounds alot like what im goin through.... great....

Livinzoo- I have it on my left side, and when I chew too much it starts swelling even more. Did u have swelling like this as well?
I am really nervous. 1st- I hate the doctor
2nd- I hate the Dentist
3rd- I hate being in a situation where I have to have surgery..... there have been many deaths in my family involving when they went in to have surgery and died. So I was scared out of my mind as a little boy thinking about having surgery...
