Well looks like Holderreads no longer has Pomerianians

Now I don't know for sure....just guessing based on what I've read. I've seen photos that show a younger niece and nephew that help with the farm, but I don't know that they will be interested in taking over. I do cross my fingers that their years of work will be preserved. If the flock can't be kept together, at the very least I would love to see it split to responsible breeders who will continue his good work.

Well , I was debating this year to get Poms or Super Africans...when I crunched the numbers today I sent in my first order for the Shetlands I need. I ordered 5 last year, ended up with only one female...arrghh, and lost her and a boy to something strange , neurological symptoms during the drought. (covered elsewhere) so I have 3 friendly little white boys left, and no wivess this year I am getting some pairs!
So now I guess it will be the Super Africans, but boy are they expensive.....I am tempted to get some elsewhere (do have a son in college:0)...keep looking at Metzgers videos...but I would like to show maybe.... Sort of want A+, but am wondering if I can get some b+ and maybe get lucky....(3 X the cost) ......

Hey, when I read the article on Holderread selling his Pilgrim and Buff goose breeder flock to Metzer Farms...it also mentioned that he had purchased 5 of Holderread's Super African ganders. I don't know what quality stock Metzer had in Super African before, but adding in the Holderread line may make it worth looking into. They don't show any goslings available right now through April, but the prices aren't bad.

Oh, and I also discovered he sold his Anacona duck flock as well.

i hope that some one in thier family will step up and take over the farm or they at least sell the birds to some one who will keep breding thier high quality birds to thier standards and not let the quality go down

So then if we already ordered the Pom goslings what's gonna happen? I ordered a sq Pom pair, sq African pair, and the sq assortment pair...what are they gonna do?

From what Oregon Blues posted, he was going to try to work with her on selling her adults instead of goslings. However, she isn't sure he even has many of those left. Now, this only goes for the Pomeranians: If I were you, I would get a hold of the Holderread's and inquire about the rest of your order.

In my pursuit of Buff Pom hatching eggs I have run across several breeders with the Grey Poms, one that has very good looking stock. They are out there. If you need help finding them, please post and I'll see if I can find those sites again.

The only reason I found out was that I emailed and asked about getting the males and females marked so I could tell which were which. I show them, so I must know the gender.

I was told at that time that the adults were for sale.

i did not realise they had no one to take it over it makes me want to cry thinking that all thier hard work could end up going down the drain

they are very nice people and i hope they can find some one who know what thier doing to eventualy take over that is as nice and friendly as them

Yes and no... while all that quality stock may not be located in one place anymore, it's hardly a waste of life's work. Dave has pulled many breeds of ducks and geese out of obscurity and extinction and hatched hundreds of thousands of birds that have become their own small breeding flocks and bloodlines throughout the US. A quality standard line may not be as simple as it used to be to locate when Holderread discontinues-- but if not for their efforts there would be no "Mrs. Jones in MA" or "Mr. Stevens in FL" or "Old McDonald's Farm in Idaho", and many more all over the continent from which to trade hatching eggs or ducklings. Because of the Holderrread's efforts, fanciers have options, and the breeds will go on. It will just take a little more google searches to get stock.
