Well that was loud, and unpleasant.

Yet another valid reason to carry. If you had to go back to the house to get your gun the dog would have been gone and you likely would have lost even more birds. I too am surprised the first shot didn't put it down. I carry a .45 acp too and that is a pretty big calibre. I have never had to shoot anything with it, but would think if I hit a dog anywhere with it the damage would be massive. I suspect the feral cats around here will force me to find out one day. I've already drawn on one, but it was moving to fast for me to hit.

CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW ?!?

The other day we were working in the yard and the new neighbor starts to pick off gophers from his porch.
My husbands say" Man, what is he using a .45?"

I talked to the guy later that day, he was using a 22 long rifle. Sure is alot louder when you are down range.

Sorry that you had to take care of someone elses problem dog.

So sorry for the loss of your birds. I feel bad for the dog too. But you did what you had to do. Even though we don't like to have to kill anything if it needs to be done it is done. Thank God we have only had to do it once. Shame on the owners.

Hey - the dog had a ton of fun in his final days. No worries. Tons of pets that are potentially wonderful are put-down every day because they are unwanted. Survival of the fittest applies to the pet world too. This dog was not suitable to the environment in which he was placed, so he had to go.

Sorry, for all of it: bad owner, loss of birds, probably unnecessarily dead dog (due to bad owner.) Sorry you were put in that position.

I have a friend who was once in the unfortunate position of being in the cab of a pickup while someone shot a deer rifle from the back of the truck, using the cab roof to steady the gun. Now that was loud, I was told.

Yes that is a shame. I personally could not shoot a dog but that dog would have "disappeared" and I wouldn't have had a clue about it if anyone asked. Sorry for the loss of some of your birds.
