Well the battle has begun for Back yard chicken folks UPDATED POST 27

And the difference between paying someone to process your birds and paying someone to process your deer or cattle is WHAT???? Why single out only feathered animals?

The only difference is that some big company is trying to get a monopoly!!!

I wish I knew how to stop it!!!

The problem is that times have changed and the original good reasons for such rules have gone away, and now instead it's the agribiz types who are whispering poisonous nothings into the ears of the regulators and the legislators.

The good news is that people across the political spectrum are coming together to realize that the current regulations are being twisted to the advantage of large corporations, to the detriment of consumers, farmers, eaters, and hobbyists. We need to take back control from industry lobbyists.

A thought provoking book to read on the topic is "Everything I want to do is Illegal" by Joel Salatin. He has many stories of his fights with regulators, some successful, and some not.

OK I finally got over to Domonics. Here is what I found out.

last fall while processing a old friends birds (a customer that has been going to him for 20 years) the inspector came. He saw Dominick's workers processing the woman's birds and fined him $3000!!!!!!!!

now at $2 a bird that was a HUGE hit. He was told it was to keep Avian flu away. Obviously that makes no sense. He then said he gets a list from the state telling him the only poultry farms he can buy from and that it is a very short list.

I spoke to the other places when I got home they all got $3000 fines as well.

Dominic has had his live poultry store for 60 years now and has never been told he could not process others birds ever before.

To me it is obvious that the lobbyists for the poultry industry realized how much business they were loosing and put pressure on the state to stop it. I guess they figure many people wont want to process their own and maybe will be forced to buy from the store, but they are wrong I will never buy chicken from a store again.

So having 8 rangers in a box that I was hoping would be in the freezer, got pardoned while I dig out the killing cone, scalder and a friend to help me out.

So disheartening I am so tired of the government folding to the pressures of big business. It makes me sick.

So here is hat happened the rumors are real, no processors in NY state can or will process other peoples birds any longer.

Tthe govt controls and manipulates prices in the food industry and has ever since fdr. they have even been known to buy exess poultry from tysons to keep the price of food higher. Not lower higher so think about that! One land mark descision by the supreme court"U.S. supreme court was against a small farmer for selling his own poultry products.

This just burns my buns!

It's the same thing the dairy industry lobby was doing to raw milk from independent farms. Joel Salatin had it so right....corporate America does not want you to cut into their profits by growing your own food. If they could find a way to make tomatoes a 'health risk' unless they are grown under their corporate umbrella in controlled, 'monocultural safe zones' (i.e. FACTORY FARMS!) then they would.

You would think in today's world, with the threat of terrorism, that the gov't would encourage independent home food production since concentrating our food sources into corporate entities like drawing a big bullseye on the very belly of our Nation. The proverbial 'putting all our eggs in one basket' analogy.
And on a financial note: Are Monsanto and Cargill "too big to fail'?

The gov't is just a tool used by corporate America to safeguard their profits and their interests. Money, not its' citizens, is the gov't's focus and driving force.
