Yes it did.

I remember that, too. I paid $1.25 for a gallon of gas way back in the 80's, then it dropped to half that for a very long time. You're right that Carter was a terrible president, too.

Where is personal responsibility anyway? These bad loans are not all the fault of unscrupulous bankers. We were told several times that we bought houses that we could qualify for X amt of loan dollars. We refused, knowing that payment would strap our budget, no matter what they were willing to give us. WE made the decision to sign. WE paid the mortgages every month, not the banker. WE were the ones ultimately responsible for our finances. Sure, not every borrower is the brightest bulb in the pkg, but that still doesn't change the fact that they didnt do their own simple math to figure if they could really afford that pymt.

Although I think it's quite a combo of many spiraling sources............I DO agree with you.

I think PPL really do know what they are worth.........but they just WANT.

It really has to end.

There are just so many who are completely left out.

WE need to see this.........and the error of our ways........regardless of what our BANKERS, POLITICIANS or WHOEVER tell us.

To Thine own self be true.

Good Point.

Very well said Cyn! That was something I was thinking, but didn't throw into the pot. This crisis is most definitely not just the governments or the banks fault. It had a lot of help along the way. There were many people lining up at the banks to get those loans knowing good and well that they would be living out of their means if they got those loans. They signed in hope that they could because the banks said they could. The math wasn't done by them. Greed has many faces.

I can just imagine what Pres Bush is going to go down one of the worse president...he would be right with Carter and Nixon with his impeachments, and I think the impact is much greater than Carter ever did. I dont remember too much about Carter except the good things he had done for community after he retired from presidency.

Don't you mean the 850 billion bill...there was 150 billion more added for total BS...like virgin rum, a 0.30 tax credit for boy scouts in oregon who use wooden arrows. Oh yeah...total crazy crap. That is why the house kicked it back the first time...only until they added all this junk.

The gov't is now buying bad paper so Wells Fargo and the other Big ( Brother ) Banks can bid up Wachovia because we ( the taxpayers ) have covered their debt.

Welcome to the new era of BIG MONEY

OH.....and now we need to lower the rates again......( how low can they go ) so that retired people and pensioners will be next in the soup line.
