I have the best tasting well water ever. My dad wants to tap in to my well instead of using his. It taste so good! I also love not having to add chemicals to my fish tanks. I just get the garden hose and refill mine after I do a water change. We have had our property for 10 years now and can't imagine drinking city water anymore.
We use well water for everything...We have never had a problem. Now if there is a reason you don't drink you well water (contamination or something) then I wouldn't use it for the chickens either.
I have well water that was run to my house, but it had so much iron and trash in it, (I guess the well wasn't deep enough) so I bought city water for $650 I don't even give my chickens my well water...

Have you ever had your well water tested? You could have that done if you're worried about it. And I NEVER buy bottled water. Why would I pay for dead water when I can get good filtered water for free! When I had my well hooked to my house I went to walmart and bought a water filter for my kitchen sink and it worked fine, but my water so bad, I was going through a filter a month. So I bought city water and still have my filter. And I really don't know about it affecting the chickens...
Check with state health dept, they should be able to give you name of a lab that you can take or send a sample of your water to, to have it tested. People have lived off of well water for long before city water was ever thought of. In fact most smaller citys draw thier water from wells, some get thier water from rivers and such, AND if you check your bottled water it was bottled in the city right off of thier water supply, it was filtered a time or two but still its just filtered city water that came out of a well or even worse out of a river.
We have had this well forever and won't drink any other water. About six years ago the son got a job with the Sacramento water company and they filled his head with junk. They told him that any well water would kill the people drinking it. I live in the middle of no where and there is no city water within 10 miles, so I made him a bet. Our well water us as good if not better than his water districts. He took a smaple of the water back to the lab with him, a few days later he called to tell me, that my water has less bacteria and germs
than the water districts. And no chemicials. Just pure water. Test bottle water against your well water and in most cases you will find the well water is cleaner.
Love my well water. I only put a in-line filter for sediment, but the taste is great. The taste of the water in the rural suburb/subdivision where I used to live was horrible! It had a musty taste to it. We put a filter on the fridge water dispenser, but that was some nasty city water. No more.
