Wellsummer hen blown up?!?!?

Update, she is doing much better already!!! She's not puffed up at all anymore, she was drinking water off my finger, so I put a small bowl in there with her and she's drinking on her own and moving around alot more, she's nibbling on a small piece of bread I put in with her as well!!! Thanks for everyones help and advise, it is still needed though. I checked for mites, didn't find anything, she's only 2 months old so I wouldn't think shes egg bound but I felt her and now she feels normal again. How long should I keep her seperated??

ok, I picked her up to examine her more and felt her back and saw this, it's the best pictures I could get.

It looks like a huge scab but she has been fine until today, I would have noticed if she had been bleeding or attacked by something or the other chickens, any ideas on this? Frost bite? I dunno, any help appreciated!!

Nothing!?!? No one has seen this before?? She is eating and drinking and acting like she wants back outside now, but I don't know what to do??

Woops, I missed that she is only 2 months old, so of course she is not egg bound.

She is very unlikely to have frost bite there under her feathers. Chickens can hide an injury pretty well. If it isn't swollen around the scab, it may not be anything to worry about. It is hard to say, but you may want to keep your eye out for any signs of an abscess.

I'm glad she isn't puffing her feathers any more. I suppose she is not all that used to the cold yet, but it is still kind of odd. Hmm... I'm not much help.

No it's not swollen around the scab, it's just a pretty big scab, but I have never had frost bite or known anyone so I wouldn't even know what it would look like. I feel alot better because she's eating and drinking and acting alot more normal now that she's warm. It is her first winter and last night was the coldest night we have had so far so that would make since. Should I keep her seperated though to monitor her??

I don't know if you should keep her separated or not. I would be kind of curious to see if she were put with the others if she would act completely normal now. If she seem just fine out side near them then maybe she is fine. If you have any doubts then you can keep her in for a while.

I gave her some chick starter I have for my chicks and she's gobbling it up, once she finishes I think I will try putting her back with the rest and see how she does. Thanks so much and still any advise anyone has is very welcome!!

I have her seperated now and that's what I'm using, I put some old blankets in the bottom of our dog kennell and a little bowl of water and food. She's going to be spoiled now, inside in the warm heat with her own food bowls, that's ok though, I just want her to be ok!

Just put her with the rest and she's acting fine now!!! Yay, Mommy is happy! I will be keeping a close eye on her though just in case! Thanks again everyone for you help and advise!
