This is my first weather with my ducks. I have one question how does everybody keep their water from freezing through the winter. I use a heated water bowl in my chicken coop but I was think the ducks will make a mess with that. I have no idea what I'm going to do.

This is my first weather with my ducks. I have one question how does everybody keep their water from freezing through the winter. I use a heated water bowl in my chicken coop but I was think the ducks will make a mess with that. I have no idea what I'm going to do.

I use heated buckets and place a piece of scrap board over half with a rock on top this keeps them from climbing inside the buckets and using them as private hot tubs. I don't keep water inside though, but if you do place some kind of tray under the bucket to help contain the water they spill out.
