Your very well could do just the same

I cant believe I finally hot my first WH eggs today. I didn't think they would lay until next spring but they laid 2 big surprises on the same day. Now I guess it is time to find a male. If anybody in southern Oklahoma has any extra WH drakes, could you please let me know.

How big are the eggs? I'm contemplating getting WH's in the spring. Congratulations!

The eggs are bigger than my biggest chicken eggs. I mostly use them for baking, but they are so big that you have to add extra flour sometimes for cookies and things that have a thicker batter.

Nice! I've baked with them before, but I've only seen Pekin duck eggs. The welsh harlequin breed appeals to me though and I was hoping their eggs would be a nice, good size.

I have read a lot of the replies here but not all, sorry. But can somebody please help me with a simple answer to this:
If one pure welsh harlequin duck mate with one pure welsh harlequin drake, will all ducklings be pure welsh harlequin with the rigt color?

(Or is it like blue australorp chickens where only 50 % will be blue?)

Thank you

Yes, a WH hen with a WH drake should produce a WH. However, there are two varieties of WH , Silver (most prominent) and Golds. I have yet to get a direct answer on this, but, what I have been able to surmise, correct me if you know for sure folks, if you breed a Silver to a Gold, you get a Silver. Best,

Liz

I was thinking about ordering some from Metzers. I want to breed a calm bird that lays really well. Those of you that have, how well do they lay? Their site says about 150 a year without artificial light. I like the fact they are calm birds. Like most things here, they will be pets. However, I also want ones that lay well.
