I have two Welsummer chicks bought together from a feed store the day after they arrived. One was from a tank of sexed pullets, the other from a SR tank. We asked the clerk to try for a roo. They were all so young and looked exactly alike to my eyes. We hoped we came away with a pair, but would have been just as happy with 2 pullets.
Now close to 5 weeks old, they both have comb development- and they are both pinking up. One chick is also quite larger than the other (the smaller one did act sickly for a day or two with suspected crop impaction but came around). Please let me know what you all think!
Here they are side by side for size comparison. Bigger chick is top middle of pic, smaller is bottom middle.

Big chick: breast feathers are black, and looks like a wing bar is forming as well.

Little chick. Comb was first to enlarge & pink up. Only a couple of specks of black on new breast feathers:

Thanks for taking the time to look at my chickies & for your gender opinions!

Number one is a cockerel. But the second chick doesn’t look like a welsummer to me. Number 2 should have a full salmon chest and even if they are poor quality, I’d expect darker eyeliner on a pullet. Number two also looks like a cockerel because of the comb development, and, the caramel eyeliner. This is just my opinion of course
