Hi. I am new to raising chicken and was wondering if someone could help me out.
I got 3 hens 2 Welsummerand 1 leghorn. The Welsummer do not have tails. Is that normal ? I was told they were 5 months old.

Any other tips for a new owner would also be greatly appreciated.

Hello and welcome to BYC - great to have you onboard with us. Sorry, I'm no breed expert, but I'm sure other greeters that follow will be able to help you out.

You'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre - https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center and if you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you

I don't know about the Welsummer's - how old are they? Can you feel any tail bone, or do you mean they just don't grow tail feathers? You may want to post photos at
what breed or gender is this.

This is a picture of a Welsummer from Murray McMurray hatchery.

This is a Welsummer picture from My Pet Chicken...

They should have tails. Maybe you got some other breed from the seller?

Partridge Rocks, and they could be missing tail feathers from a juvenile molt or from feathering picking. I have occasionally had Barred Rock mixes that never developed tail feathers.
