She is 4 weeks old, yet still has no tail feathers. I have another one from the same batch that looks just like her and she doesn't have any tail feathers either. Do you think they are Welsummers? Or maybe a different breed? Thanks for any suggestions.

I have week-old Welsummer & Speckled Sussex chicks that are all starting to get their tail feathers. Both types seem to have less "striping" of their wings than yours. The SS have a bit of white at the edge of their wings. I have attached a photo of each (sorry my cell phone pics are not very clear). Of course, mine are hatchery chicks, and I'm sure there can be a fair amount of variation in appearance. Could yours be Easter Eggers?

They could be easter eggers. That would be great if they are! The farm I bought them at didn't know what they were. I see where your SS has the white on its wings. Neither of mine have any white on their wings. All my chicks (even the younger ones) already have tail feathers. I just found it odd at 4 weeks that neither of them has any tail feathers -- they don't even have the beginning of tails. I guess I will have to wait a few more weeks and post more pics.

I wrote to Ideal Hatchery (which is where the shipment originated from) and asked them what this little one might be. They weren't totally positive, but told me she could either be a (1) Welsummer; (2) Indian Red Jungle Fowl; or (3) Silver Phoenix. In looking at pics, it seems to me she favors the jungle fowl the most. Any thoughts from the chicken experts on here?
