Hello! So we have 1 pullet and 1 cockerel from same breeder (from hatching eggs) who are like welsummers in every regard.... except that they have silked feathers. They are now 8 weeks old. There is no black skin or 5th toes to suggest any silkie in their make-up, and their shape is exactly Welsummer-y, with none of the crest or comb you’d expect from a silkie. I posted pics on another thread and it was suggested this could be a spontaneous mutation. Feather shaft mites were also suggested but it’s totally even- every feather is the same and they have no sign of skin irritation or anything like that. They are growing up into beautiful silkied welsummers - hoping that the pullet lays eggs as brown as the one she hatched from! Anyone seen similar? Any ideas re other explanations?? Could this be the start of a whole new breed?😅🤣🤔

Wow, I have had many silkie mixes over the years and never have I gotten a silken feathered chick. This has got to be the neatest thing I've ever seen! My goodness I hope you're able to breed them and make a new breed one day, I'd buy 😍
