Welsummers don't have feathered legs right? Another question on pg 2

I only have one Welsummer hen that talks loudly and the others are so quiet...it all depends on the birds themselves.

I love my Welsummers and I would not change a thing about them. Yep, there bound to be a bad apple now and then but neverthanless, they are all good birds to have in backyards.

Poultrylady, I think the gentleman you mentioned, could he be the original Lowell Barber????? I love his birds and I am still learning about the past historical breeders that imported the Welsummers here in US.

LOL I'm glad I wasn't the only one tempted for this very same thing when I read this earlier & so you asked first....

I had been toying with which kind of hen to try next this coming spring & so I'd seen this thread & the name Welsummers had caught my attention in the past & so I had to go look them up..... They look like beautiful birds.... I'd kid of thought I'd like to try my hand using the incubator too. I imagine we'd have to wait a while for eggs to be shipped now with the cold weather right?

I certainly recommend Wellies. They are attractive birds with nice temperaments, AND they lay beautiful eggs. What more can a person ask for?

One of the reasons I asked about poultrylady's eggs is because she lives relatively close to me. I wouldn't have to get shipped eggs OR birds.

Her Wellies have VERY DARK eggs. I have a few in my bator as we speak. They are due to hatch end of the week.....

My oldest daughter pointed this thread out to me. She said she wondered at first if this lady had poultrylady's Wellies. Then read further. I explained to my youngest (the Wellies are for him) that they were talking of getting feather stubs on their legs.) He actually said that woudl be so cool. Mind you a 7 year old boy here. LOL Having my only experience with a hatchery Welsummer I am excited to see how these turn out. And our hatchery Marans has some feathering on her feet as well. Honestly, the amount of feathers they have are nothing compared to a Silkie. I could see someone having issues with dirt collection on those feet, but not on the sparce feathering like a Marans. I would give them time to grow up and see how much trouble they really are. I have yet to really clean our birds (Silkies and others) feathered feet and they get into everything around here at our ranch.
