I have until the 24th to stock up on feed and supplies before the Chick Season starts at my favorite feed store. Luckily, perhaps, the employees there know I'm hatching, and keep asking me about my TJs chicks, and they have promised not to bug me "unless we get something special in."
When I first told them I was hatching my own, the second thing store manager said was, "And how is that any different than buying straight run chicks - and with all the breeds, not just the bantams?" (The first thing was "This time of year?") He remembered when I bought my Sebrights, and then bought more, trying to get pullets. First two were cockerels, but the second two were the pullets I wanted.
So, after the 24th, I can only look, but not adopt.
