I like to make people's eyes glaze over and watch the drool when I am talking about my ducks.

I like to see how long it takes before they start trying to politely change the subject.

"Oh that Terrie and her ducks! tsk tsk"

YES! Lol, ALot of my friends some know to give me "the look" When I start going on about ducks , feeders, brooders, houses and such.

My friend Anna's favorite thing to say is :" Kate, Your doing that thing again that no one understands" . She used to own pekins so she knows a little of what I talk about.

My couch took me out to dinner once and she brought up the subjects of ducks, and asked me if they actually all have their own little personalities and such and I started explaining how my old geezer drake is such a sweet heart and finds nesting spots and sits on eggs and how one of my hens likes to chase the other around and just little things like that, and when i looked up at her she had this "WHat in the world is that cray girl talking about " look on her face. SO I did her a favor and asked her how her dogs were doing.

You guys are sometimes way too rough on these feed/pet store employees. I, personally, do not feel like I am any better than anyone else simply because I know more about ducks than the average person (or feed store employee). It is not like they typically hire these employees to work just ONE little area of the store, nor do they hire multiple people with specialized knowledge to work all shifts so there is always someone there that knows a lot about poultry. That is simply not the reality of owning a retail business.

The fact is there may be someone there that knows absolutely nothing about poultry, but is so knowledgeable about horses they could write a book. That is just an example. Now, I'm sure someone will pipe in and so, NO- they don't know anything about horses either! LOL, well, that is not my experience (and again, that was just an example, not meant to be taken literally). People generally work in these stores because they have an interest in what is sold there and they almost always have knowledge about SOME type of animal or else they wouldn't be there or want to work there. Of course, this is not always the case, but for the majority I think it is. It is not like they go out of their way to hire someone that knows nothing. At our feed store (the CO equivalent of TSC), the lady that I think is in charge of the poultry is very sweet and knowledgeable. She is only there about 1 in 5 times we are there though and yes, I probably know more than her, but that doesn't mean she doesn't know a lot (nor that she might not know things I don't know).

Also, doing something a different way does not necessarily make that way "wrong" or "less than" your way. Just look at the number of people here on this very site that are extremely knowledgeable and have different ways of doing things. That doesn't make either party "wrong". Yes, sometimes they are wrong, but sometimes it is just a different way of doing things. For example- I could not possibly care less if someone calls bantams "banties". In my opinion, that doesn't make them wrong. They could be filled with excellent advise you are missing because of you own ego.

she doesnt have a lot of free time to work on it. But basically its about a girl named Kate who has a Pet muscovy, while evryone else has dogs, and the scovy follows her around everywhere, and sits on her shoulder and stuff like that, they smething big happens and Kate and her scovy have to solve some huge problem/mystery.

I rememeber last year my kids would play with the chicks, and there were a couple times the elderly would tell me how dangerous it was for the kids to touch "those things"
