I love our local Walmart super center. It beats having traveling to the city for everything.

We have 4 within 15 miles of me... Everytime we see a construction site we joke it's a new Walmart..

Enjoy.

(bad diet tip: thier generic reese's peanutbutter cups in the purple bag are wickedly good, don't tell my diet, ok)

Same deal here. We already had a Super W-M that had adapted with the help of a great manager to become more like a giant general store. Our great guy moved on and the new manager remodeled and eliminated a tremendous number of items. Now I only shop there for essentials (very few) that I can't find elsewhere. I hope you get one of the better ones.

I remember those days...LOL...we have a market at our gas station (which is the only thing within 18 miles unless you count the fire house, the church , and the mail house) and if I buy "groceries" there because I don't have 2 hours to waste in my day it costs so much.

Right now I drive the 35 miles into the Old Wal-Mart town because it isn't worth just goign into my (closer) town when there is nothing there. We have a Big R and one strip mall where the Safeway is, but other than that...nothing.

Honestly, this Wal-mart is going to give our county some serious tax money and hopefully they will use that money to pave the roads.

Agreed. I guess people don't realize what it is like to live in a very RURAL area.
For groceries we have two choices. We can shop at the walmart 20 minutes away or we can pack an ice chest (necessary in the summer heat) and drive an hour away to the nearest town that has more than one grocery store.
We did have another grocery store in town, but it closed about a month ago. It was a nasty dirty store anyhow.
So walmart it is.
On top of that, we've been living in the dark ages all day. The internet for the entire area went down this morning, came back up for a bit, went down again and just now came back up. Cell phones were also useless.
We went to walmart late this afternoon to do our grocery shopping and it was a very frustrating experience.
Our store is completely controlled by computers at walmart's home office in Bentonville, AR. The A/C, the computer system, the refrigeration compressors. When all the computers went down this morning, so did the compressors running the refrigerator cases at our walmart. They had all the meat, dairy and frozen food cases blocked off and covered in brown paper trying to conserve the cold.
We have to go back tomorrow to try and finish our shopping.

I've never understood this. Wal-Mart offers discount prices that save families hundreds of dollars, and employs millions of people worldwide, but people still hate them.

I just don't get it.

Perhaps we shouldn't go into it. I've heard both sides of the argument and really don't think the OP wanted it to be a discussion of ethics or business.

I'm sure if you googled it, you'd find the controversial info you seek.

To each their own! If you are happy I am happy for you! I drive close to 18 miles to get to a WalMart because I'm not going to pay the prices the family owned store we have out here charges. They own the grocery store, the gas station, the other gas station, and have a vested interest in the only Dollar stores we have too. I can't afford to shop out here, so Hi Ho Hi Ho it's off to Wally World I go!
