We're looking at a pony today

Once a kid learns to deal with a Shetland they can ride anything! I learned on one and as much of a pain he was his leasens on horsemanship stayed with me for life. The best thing you can do for any pony is train them to also pull a cart. They can stay helpfull longer that way.

Aw, Angie, you're just trying to make us jealous now, aren't you?

Let us know how it goes!

Good luck with the pony today. Let me know if you need any information checked on the seller, might be someone that I know. Horse world is small sometimes.

Well, I'm pretty sure he's not a Shetland.

Or he's not what i think of when i think Shetland. He's a pretty good size, I'm not good at estimating hands but I measured where his back comes up on me and I think he's about 12-13 hands??

He looks like he might have some Haflinger or something, I don't know much about ponies, so maybe you all can tell.

I took pictures but they are bad because I forgot all about taking them until it was time to go.

Anyway his name is Bo. He's 9 years old. He was bought from Hemphills in July and because of things just not working out the owner had to sell her property and move into a rental.

Right now Bo is staying at a friend of his owner and is being used as a companion to a very naughty Standardbred mare (who tried to bite my rear end and kept swinging her rear at me) that is pretty jealous of the pony and kept coming over to bite Bo when ever we were paying him attention and ignoring her.

He's super sweet. I put my hands all over him, picked up his feet. Leaned over his back, played with his ears and put my arm around him and waved my hands all around his head. He was so good.

The lady sat on him (she's obviously smaller them me

) and he stood right there. She also has twin daughters who are 6 and the pony was good with them. I didn't bring DD in the fence with me because of that naughty mare.

He's a good weight and very obedient, I didn't get to lunge him with all the ice and snow but he did everything I asked him to.

So long story short, we are bring him home at the end of the month as long as everything clears with the vet which it should, his owner had all his vet records and he was deemed healthy in July.

I doubt he has any Haflinger, they are draftish things, it's just the color that's getting you

To me he looks like a generic Heinz 57 little pony - which is not at all a bad thing!

You may have to spend a little extra time on saddle fit, as most pony saddles are made for witherless widebodies, and even with just a light kid you can still run into fit problems (both in terms of sores and in terms of behavior).

He looks very cute and furry though. Congrats!
