Hi folks,
I wonder if someone can help us with this problem.

We adopted 4 chickens a few weeks ago and 3 were laying quite happily until now.

The one which has not layed once has a bald vent which looks a bit sore and her feathers seem to be either falling out or she is pulling them out all over.

Ive noticed today that one of the others has now got a bald vent and she seems to be very wet around that area. Wet to the point of dripping.

They both seem to be feeding ok but im unsure what the problem is.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
Juliette

Rehoming chickens is stressful to them physically. You could be seeing a virus they are carrying that has decided to raise its ugly head in their weakened condition. This is why we recommend quarrentining all new chickens as far away from your flock as possible. These types of things do happen and can be tragic in outcome.

I'm thinking egg bound. There are some people on this sight really knowledgable about this. Also, click on the search tab in the forum and type egg bound. There are a lot of posts regarding this. Also type in infection. I hope it clears up.

Hi again, I've checked one of my chickens (the one with the wet vent) and cant feel anything to suggest she is egg bound. The fluid is watery but a bit stringy like very loose egg white.

Ive havent been able to catch the other one yet to check. I will try and get some photos instead tomorrow and post them here.

Thanks
Juliette
