We've done a scary thing. Pics too.

I think so.

I had a Persian that was an amazing mouser, but I got her as an adult cat. Go figure.

I've never had a cat that I got that young that was any good for mouse catching...

If I had a rodent problem as bad as Debi is describing though I'd want it taken care of TODAY. RIGHT NOW. I'm definitely not gonna wait for a couple kittens to grow.

MY cat was raised as a kitten in an apartment complex. at 3 years old we moved somewhere with woods in the backyard, and he hunted LOTS! Then, we moved to the coutry and he always had critters guts everywhere!

I think he learned from me just playing with him, and natural curiosity, just like chasing flies and stuff. haha

Debi, what do you plan to do if these guys catch the FIP like your other ones?? I remember those stories, and how the poor cat was suffering/dying while Ken sat with it/comforting it...etc...
I'd just be worried( what with Ken out of work and all), that if an emergency came up, you wont be able to at least put them down humanely again....
My brother just lost one of his cats to this... so sad. He had to bring him in to be put down cause the vet said they do suffer badly with this disease ...

Please put enough money aside to at least put them down, (if needed)
I'm not rich either

.. .. but i always have enough money to bring my pets in to at least be put down humanely. Do try to put that aside..
Good luck with them!

Ok, given I am probably out of touch with the "Real world"...but wouldn't vet bills, food, and cat litter for two cats add up to more than 175.00?

Holy Snipes! After all that I might just move. You have mutant mice. Ugg!

For real!!! 2 cats aint gonna handle that ... eek!

It may just be coincidence, but I did not hear mice last night and I do not hear any tonight, nor is there waste on the counters. I am skeptical about the scent of a cat keeping them away, but HECK! I'll take it.

Red, believe me, all of that stuff has crossed our minds a hundred times. I am aware that we are at least partially being irresponsible. I think I get it more than Ken, but he was ballistic over the mouse turds. I can't say I blame him. We have probably tossed hundreds of dollars in food over the last 6 months. Which will probably allow us to save for vet bills. Our vet is very reasonable by the way. He allows payments. He also has free immunizations available each month.

I really appreciate everyone's advise and comments. I am not looking for someone to tell us what we are doing is right, just maybe - just maybe they will be fine. Can you tell I am gonna drive myself nuts for the better part of a year waiting to see? Ugh.

City girl, we are in circular issue. We have to pay the rent to have a roof, and if we pay the rent we can't afford to move.

We really don't need the room this house offers either. Again UGH.

I understand. I am pretty much stuck here too. I like the joint though, so I put up with the occasional rodent invasion and old house traumas.

I hope your kitties fix your mouse problem and that they stay healthy. They are awfully cute. What did you name them?

They have not yet told us what theirs names are. Right now they are KITTIES? Kitties??? Where are you kitties??

They don't seem to understand water either. I have had to soak dry food to make a gravy to get them to drink. Honestly, this guy that had them was totally clueless. They stick their face in the water and breathe it, so they don't want to go back. I am now a momma kitty.

No I won't go there. However, they have both had runny stools since we got them, which leads me to believe they have not been fed (they are skinny) since the momma left the picture. Today they were both much more lively and acting like kittens. One climbed my leg three times today, which leads to me think I need names of famous climbers. The calico is very calm and obsessed with pens. Writing pens. Like they are gonna attack her/him. Hissing and growling and batting and chewing pens.
