We've Got Ducks!!!

The goose we have is a girl.......supposed to be, anyway. The ducks are 3 pair, and a spare ? I guess someone told us a gander bc supposedly they have spurs on their wing tips? Ever heard that? We live almost next door to Sylvan Heights, a zoo devoted just to birds. My fiance is friends with the owner/manager. He's the one who suggested the gander.

***Let me see if I can go and get a few pictures..........

WOW! THey do resemble each other!!! Is yours a bantam? Mine is a standard breed, though not huge. FUNNY!! thanks for sharing...

i dont know hes a cross breed his head is higher then the hens but his back isnt

I have 10 ducks 14 chickens and 1 goose[gander] and he hangs out with everyone else. As for protecting the flock, I really don't think he'd stand a chance against a full grown fox or coyote but he does deter hawks.

I got into ducks because of my daughter. She wanted chickens, but her dad said he didn't like chickens. So, she asked about ducks! My poor hubby said he didn't mind, so he and our daughter rebuilt a shed into a nice duck house and yard and we ordered ducklings. That was years ago. Our daughter grew up and left home (darn her!!) and my husband and I are quite fond of our duckies. She's gotten me into a lot of different projects and left them to me to inherit.

What do you feed all your (and your fiance's) chickens? Just wondering because with that many birds you've probably found a way to cut down on the feed bill.

Do you already have a post on byc somewhere showing your coop, pen, pound, set-up, ect...?

Thanks!!!

Oh, you didn't offend me! If you can give me until tonight sometime, I will post pictures of our set-up. I am a hospice nurse, and I've been on-call since yesterday afternoon. I've been really busy, but am hoping it will calm down by this afternoon. I'm on my way now to see a few patients. When I get back home, I will be sure to post the pictures. BYE for now!
