Oh I love it!! So perfect! I'm thinking of which characters I want to use next. I've got 4 more bantam cochin chicks about to join the flock. They're all females.LOVE THE ANNE OF GREEN GABLES NAMES! They ate beautiful!! I want ducks some day.
Thank you! You should totally get some! My only problem with them is that they make a big mess with their kiddie pool… other than that they are great! They get along peaceably with my chickens and guineas and are really easy to round up at night (if ur free ranging) and they are so stinkin cute! They ate beautiful!! I want ducks some day.
I did know that about drakes trying to mate chicken hens and that it could kill them. I think I would only get females, since I don't have any plans to breed or sell ducks. I love the eggs, but really I think it would be mostly the entertainment. I love watching them.Thank you! You should totally get some! So I mentioned I had 2 drakes…
Gilbert was a really good boy and never was rude to my hens but then during mating season he started chasing my chickens and trying to mate them and if u didn’t already know, that can result in death to the chicken. So that’s why we killed Gilbert.
Anne, who was the other drake, was mating my hens a lottt and they all disliked him. No matter what season it was, he would chase all his ladies. Then, mating season came… he started attacking me. He would chase me and fly and bite me so we killed him bc of that.
So you may have problems with drakes, but I know some are perfect gentlemen. It might also depend on the breed… I had a Mallard and Saxony. I do have 2 Khaki Campbell drakes now and they are young, I’m hoping they are good boys.
Yes!!! All females is a great idea. Their eggs are perfect for baking!I did know that about drakes trying to mate chicken hens and that it could kill them. I had looked at runner ducks, Welsh Harlequin, and Golden Layers. This is our first year with chickens, so we're still working on extending the run and building a second coop. But once those are done, I definitely plan to revisit ducks.
My neighbor gave me a bunch, and I gave some to my mom to use in her pound cake. It was delicious!Yes!!! All females is a great idea. Their eggs are perfect for baking!
