What’s everyone’s favorite breed, and why?

Oh my, that’s such a hard question.

I have quite a few different breeds now. I feel like it depends on their individual personality rather than breed to be a favorite.

My all time favorite bird that I have right now is my royal palm turkey hen, named princess!

Look wise, I love my silkies and our speckled Sussex.

Hardiness wise, our golden sebrights have been awesome. Super agile and fly really well!

D'Uccles are my favorite breed and always will be. I've been raising them for almost 4 years and just got to a point where I can breed.
I love D'Uccles because they are both stunning and extremely docile. Even the males are wonderful characters. Anyone can handle a D'Uccle, even a toddler or special needs individual. My late hen, Ember, was an ambassador and frequently visited young children who held her in every angle imaginable and she sat happily through it all.

I agree, this can be a hard question to answer. And I totally agree with @Wolfefarmyard in this quote:
I have quite a few different breeds now. I feel like it depends on their individual personality rather than breed to be a favorite.
So, all in all, I might say for now that Barred Plymouth Rocks are my favorite birds, but Production Reds, RIRs, RSLs, etc., are great, too. My Barred Rock is extremely hardy, friendly, a great forager, and faithfully lays a large amout of eggs weekly.
Amberlinks, in my limited experience, though, are content in confined runs, but when allowed to free range, they know how to forage like nobody's business!, and can't be beat in egg production (mine probably laid comparatively to a White Leghorn or Red Sex Link). ;)
Easter Eggers are nice, sure, but I haven't necessarily found mine to be as sweet as other people claim theirs to be...they tend to lean on the skittish side; at least mine do. But I do appreciate the beautiful colored eggs they lay, and the lovely feathered array they are created in. :)
What I would like to say is Speckled Sussexes, Appenzeller Spitzhaubens, and d'Uccles are my favorite breeds (they are gorgeous, sound friendly and docile, and I've just read some great things about them), but I've never owned any of those breeds, so can't honestly/fairly judge them.

I became enthralled with chickens because of white leghorns. I loved the comment someone made above about them being sassy. For me it is not the eggs, even though they are prolific layers. I got 360 eggs in 365 days from one. Incredible streak.

For me it's their sassyness (is that right or did I invent a word or worse yet, can I just not spell it?)

I have found them to be bright, clever, curious, and very friendly. The key is you need to engage them and earn their trust. Once you have it they always want to know what you are up to. In fact I had trouble getting rid of mine sometimes so I could work in the yard, on their coop, whatever. They wanted to be in it. Up on the table when we trying to eat outside. They engaged me and entertained me. I'm a big fan.

I think this is my 3rd year for chickens, so I am still experimenting with breeds. I have found that I do not really enjoy bantam breeds as much as I thought I would. However, I really do enjoy my Silkies! Not the breed if you are wanting a bunch of eggs. I have a variety of large breed chicks right now. I like my Blue Favaucana, but she is loud.
