Hey there! We recently got Gabby, a 3 and a half week old Silver Appleyard (or at least that’s what I have been advised she is on this website!)
We’ve had her since a day or two old (gotten at TSC) but just noticed these two bumps on her little feet… I have dealt with bumble foot before (well, I haven’t, God got me through it!!) but anyways, I’ve never seen it on the top, and definitely never seen it in the webbing before. Does anybody know what this is? Or should I do anything about it? She has two friends (Rouens, I believe!) and they are all very rambunctious, and they nibble EVERYTHING, including each other. Feet nibbles are common, but I’m not sure that this is a result of nibbles… any clue out there in duck land?

***Gabby has been referred to as “she” not because I know it to be true, but because I’m praying “she” is a she! Bring on the eggs!!

Thanks in advance y’all, and have a blessed day!

Could it b e a bite from something? Like a spider or ant? Hope she's okay!
Oh goodness, I hadn’t thought about that! She is still inside in her brooder, so for her sake and ours alike, I hope it wasn't a creepy crawly! She has went outside for a swim though, so possibly! Thank you for that, it’s definitely something to think about! If it was a bug bite, should I do anything for her?

Gabby says she appreciates the well wishes! 🦆

I'm not really sure what to do with it.... not a very 'medical' person lol! I had a duckling that ate a bee and got stung... we got the stinger out and within a day she was fine! But if it were to be a spider that could be different... maybe just keep and eye out on her behaviour and watch if it seems to get worse. In the wild you would think ducklings would get bitten quite regularly, so I would just leave it for now 🙂

I do not think that is a bumble. I doubt it is caused by duckling nibbles. I think it is more likely to be a little congenital cyst in the webbing. I cannot be certain but I think it is a watch and wait situation

Ouch, I bet that wasn’t any fun for you or the duckling!
And that’s a good point!! Sometimes I forget that God made them to handle a lot of things themselves, and I go straight for trying to fix it or help!

Oh goodness, watch and wait for what?! What do I do for her if it gets worse? Praying it doesn’t, I would just like to know what I should expect to need to do.

It looks irritated. Id put some antiseptic of some sort over it daily until the redness went away. No idea what it actually is. Do you see it from the bottom?

Let me check, she is the loudest of the birds, so we’re in for a shouting match! Hence the name Gabby. I’m not sure if that’s a SA thing or if she just likes to yell… Let me grab my earplugs, and we’ll see what’s on the bottom ;)

Also, when you say antiseptic, do you mean something duck/fowl specific, or like a human antiseptic?
