What’s wrong with this chicken!?

Sorry to hear about your girl. :(

I have never heard of that before. Thank you for sharing this learning opportunity with us. :hugs

Will it bother if I ask a few questions for informational purposes?

How did the vet diagnose this? And what was the cost of the visit and euthanasia?

So glad this won't be contagious for your other bird. And that you got a solid answer and she won't suffer anymore. Not knowing really would be harder. Not all chicken adventures are heartbreaking. But it's the heartwarming joy they bring that makes it all worth it.

Aw, so sad. Yes, silkies with vaulted skulls are prone to issues when they get older. Even a bump on the noggin can kill them. So sorry you lost her.

The vet was able to diagnose her by just watching her, testing her reflexes, asking about her personality/what she acted like before and how we discovered this. The appointment cost 130.

Sorry about your loss and the cost. That's a load to bear. :hugs
I haven't heard of a Vaulted skull. Interesting to know what that means. I bet that would be hard to tell water on the brain with all that fuzz on the head.

Do all Silkies have vaulted skulls? And if not, how do I know which mine are?
@EggSighted4Life As far as I know - crested birds (Silkies and Polish) have vaulted skulls. This is what makes more of the "poof"(?) They have a hole in the skull as well which makes them much more susceptible to head trauma/brain injury than say an Orpington. Hope that helps.
Brown Egg Blue Egg is a good source of info on Silkies - you will have to choose the article you want to read on the left-hand side - look for "Silkie Skull" - interesting photos and read http://www.browneggblueegg.com/Article.html

Not all silkies have vaulted skulls but I do think the vaulted skull makes their poof look bigger, I don't know if she had a vaulted skull because she was fully feathered when I got her. Its hard to feel the head with those feathers.
