What a differnce in the yolks... *pic*

I actually live in town and Im the only one with chickens (since they arent really allowed, lol)

They have free ranged over the yard all day, but theres no way for them to get out and even if they do, theres no where for them to go besides the street.

All of mine have a bulls eye and also only have girls. I put a picture up awhile ago and everyone on here said it was a fertile egg but over a year later and no rooster so.....

what a beautiful egg yolk. i hope when my girls are big enough to lay they have very orange yolks like that since mine will not be able to free range but will have a very large coop n run i am going to give them alfafa and other stuff to help with yolk color and insects since i have reptiles i have insects lol.

Is the OP's pic the norm? Or some special diet? Just curious because I just today cracked open and ate the first eggs, from my first chickens (faverolle & polish free range), I've ever owned and honestly, they looked and tasted like store bought. I love my chickens as pets & more than just their eggs, and certainly love knowing that the eggs are an organic by-product of diet/conditions I can control but the whole breaking/cooking/eating experience today was kind of anti climactic.

A week ago my DH was going to pick up his daughters friend and there was a lady selling fresh eggs and homemade jelly and he stopped to buy me some (we're still a few months away from our own chickens) and he thought I'd enjoy them. He was suprised at the difference in color and how much larger the yolk was compared to the store bought ones. And the shells were way harder! Finally I think he understands why I want to have chickens, he thought they were very tasty!

I grew up eating backyard eggs. I just recently got chickens again and I never forgot how much richer the backyard eggs were when compared to store eggs, even the organic ones bought at the store.
Great picture, thanks for sharing.
